I'm BACK!

Yay! Have you missed me? I missed blogging and interacting with fellow nail art lovers! Happy to be back posting on the last day of 2012 =)

I hope everybody had a great Christmas (or any other holiday, if you don't celebrate Christmas =)) I am sure a lot of mail-related gifts were exchanged ;-)

Me, I got two Essies which I will swatch soon altough they are from a previous collection.
I got my younger sister a drop of The Man with The Golden Gun, which I put into an empty clear mini polish bottle that took ages to get completely clean. I'm not sure if she loved it, but I'm sure she liked it.

The vacation was great. As always =) The only drama was that my Kindle broke the very first day! I'm heartbroken. Really. It worked on the plane, it worked in the room, and when I woke it from standby on the beach, the top half remained frozen and only the bottom part woke =(

Please ignore my book collection...
I've had it since November 22, 2009 so I can't really complain but I'm just so sad =( Plus it happening on the first day was a real bummer. I love nothing more than reading on the beach. My Geek said he'd get me a new one for Christmas, so I'm checking which Kindle would be a good replacement. I'm thinking either Kindle or Kindle Paperwhite 3G.

I decided very last minute to keep my finger nails bare for the entire two weeks. I had been suffering some breaking and chipping so I thought I'd give my nails some time to recuperate. And it more than paid off when a lady on the beach said 'my favourite nail style is what you have, Fench manicure' and was blown away when I told her my nails were 'au natural' =D

I did do my mother's nails a couple of times so I will post those. Rather than doing one massive post, I'll be splitting my holiday-things into a couple of smaller (uh-huh) posts. My big discovery was an Egyptian polish brand named Cybele, so I will be writing about that soon!

To end this post, do any of you ever check your stats? I was just now checking them and came across this gem:
Gotta love Google Analytics
I'm just thinking of reasons a person would have to Google 'lazy Disney characters' and then click on my link! It's hilarious.

Anyway. That's it for this year folks! Hope to see you all in 2013. Have a fantastic NYE, whatever you're doing =)

Merry Manicure

Woop woop! Time for a Christmas manicure =)

Since I cannot keep measure and buy just one item online, I have not been able to buy flocking powder yet. It always seems such a waste to buy one item and then pay shipping so I end up buying things I really don't need and not being able to buy my train tickets at the end of the month, grr.
So, when my Geek and I were at a garden centre a while ago, they had all this stuff to build your own model railway landscape. I found several interesting items (I'm always on the lookout for alternatives to things that are labelled 'nail art' as it seems things double in price once they are labelled that) including powders to be used for snow and grass. I used the snowflakes for the Snow White mani, here is the grass!

I tried adding some decorations to the tree to complete the look but... Meh. I ruined it.

Fun fact: I used two different polishes for stamping: a local drugstore brand and OPI Just Spotted The Lizard. No difference here, will have to do comparison soon =)
The drugstore brand was actually a gift from GA Suze because it underwhelmed her so I can't wait to try it for real.

I used: Essence Do You Speak Love?, OPI Just Spotted The Lizard, Etos, green 'grass' powder for model trains.

Metallic Gradient

I did this mani on my mum. She's slowly discovering nail art, and now she wanted me to do something that she could do herself next time. So I went with the super easy, always fantastic looking gradient. I explained it to her as I did it and we're both confident she'll be able to do it herself. Can't wait to see the results!
Already I am quite proud to see her with these nails!

How cool is the Spongebob she is posing with? Lol. It belongs to my nephew.

I chose to combine these two colours as I wanted to do something somewhat bold. Not pale blue -> blue or something like that. I let her choose between three colour combinations and this is what she picked. I think it looks quite festive =)

I used: NYC Full Metal Jacket and a wine red metallic NYC colour, of which I have forgotten the name =(

VACAY!

Yes!!! The day has arrived. My mum and I are leaving for the airport within an hour.
I just wanted to share this picture with you of Ezio inspecting the polishes I was going to pack =)

I hope you will enjoy the scheduled posts, I will try to update in Egypt as well.

Take care and keep nail-arting!

NOTD: Glitter Gradient

Quick NOTD. A glitter gradient, because those always work <3

The base is actually a grape purple, unfortunately between packing and getting as many last minute snuggles with the cat as possible I couldn't take proper photographs.

Tomorrow we're off, so I have some posts scheduled. I hope it will all work, fingers crossed. I'm afraid I won't be able to stop myself visiting the internet cafe once or twice anyway.

I used: Essence Thelma, Essence Troy, Essence Louise

Bright Back At The Golden Gun

Hi pretties,

no nail art today but a NOTD.

This is OPI The Man With The Golden Gun over two coats of Rimmel Bright Back At You.
I love, love, love both polishes.

When I bought The Man With The Golden Gun, there was actually a big sign with instructions in the store. The instructions included holding the bottle upside down for a bit to get all the gold flakes to the top. This works really well for me; as you can see, I have no trouble fishing flakes out of the bottle =D

I have only used TMWTGG twice so far. Last time was over Tomorrow Never Dies, which is a dark shade. This time, I couldn't help but notice that TMWTGG is not clear, it left a yellowish shine over Bright Back At You. It wasn't terrible, but I was a bit disappointed as I love Bright Back At You so much.

Yikes, only five more sleeps till we leave for Egypt! I'm so excited! I just hope this whole constitution-thing will be calmer by then and the president will listen to his people =( Anyhow, I'm not a politician so that's all I'm going to say about this here =D

Holiday coming up

Hi friends,

December 15th my mum and I are leaving for our beloved Egypt. We'll be back home the 30th, and I'll be at work the 31st, yikes.
But not to worry, I won't leave you without some scheduled posts =)

Right now I have one nail art post scheduled, I'm doing a swatch post and I'm waiting for a guest post from Suze. Don't worry, I'm not picking up swatching as a thing. I am always turned off when blogs I started following for the nail art start posting more and more swatches =( It's just some polishes I would like to show you =) Also, I will have purchased each swatched polish with my own money =)

I hope you won't mind and I look forward to doing some new manis in the new year! Also, my mum has already made me promise I will do her nails 'more than once' in Egypt so I hope to be able to take some pics and post them when we get back.

Thanks for reading! Check back tomorrow from some brand new nail art =)

Lazy Day 15 Day Fifteen: Inspired by Another Blogger's Mani

Day Fifteen, we've made it you guys! I can't tell you how much I have enjoyed taking part in this challenge and seeing everybody elses pieces of art.

This was inspired by the tutorial over at Lydia's Nails. So thanks, Lydia! =)

Feather mani

I used L'Oréal Colour Riche Soft Chinchilla as a base. My mum liked it so much she has since asked me to buy it for her as well =) I can't tell you how proud I am of her. She's a busy grandma and still wants her nails to look funky.

And that's it for this challenge! I can't believe it's over. I had a blast and have discovered some amazing blogs that I will definetely continue to check. Thanks for all the inspiration guys =)
Please take your time to check out all the other amazing bloggers that did this challenge with me after the jump. I promise you won't regret it!

Sinterklaas/Santa Clause

Yay, you guys! It's almost Sinterklaas! I'm so excited that I did a cool Sinterklaas-mani.

Santa Clause nail art
Sinterklaas
Isn't he a cutie? And it was so much easier than I expected.

Response from the people around me has been so great that I might just use this design around Christmas, I'll just change the hat to make him more Santa =)

There was a 2,- discount on Rimmel polishes so I bought Ruby Crush from the Precious Stones collection. I had spotted it before, but I'm still trying to not buy each and every single polish I set my eyes on. But hey, when there's a discount, it would be a shame to miss out, right? ;-)

I like this polish. The bottle boasts 'High coverage glitter nail polish' (in ALL CAPS because apparently, that's the Rimmel way to communicate) that looks best when applied in two coats. I used three just to be sure. But how cool is a glitter polish that is opaque in just three thin coats?!

I used: Rimmel 002 Ruby Crush, Essence Stampy Polish white, Hema 01 pink (no name), L'Oréal Colour Riche 611 Sky Fits Heaven, Essence A Piece of Forever, L'Oréal Colour Riche 401 Rouge Pin Up, sharpie pen (for pupils)

Lazy 15 Day Fourteen: Where I am From

Day 14! Wow wow wow! Only one more to go =) Today's theme was Where I am From. This was harder than expected. Because, where am I from? I'm probably overthinking this, but it's all a matter of context.
My mum was born in another country as my dad. His parents were also from two different countries. So although I am not technically *from* all those places, they are in my heritage, so to speak. And I could use it all for a mani, yay!

Also. Ask my colleagues- I am from a city one hour away. Ask my neighbours- I am from another city one hour away. Ask my friends- I am from a city two and a half hours away. Ask my grandma- I am from the neighbouring country. Ask our Egyptian friends- and they might say I'm from Europe. So yeah. Loads of options to choose from, which didn't make it easier!

In the end I decided to go with the most recognizable design =)

Where am I from?  =)

Can you guess where I am from? Or rather, which (part of which) country I live in? I'm sure you can =D
Oh and the middle finger is a cow, in case you were wondering...

PS An alien would probably say I'm from Earth, to add another option to the mix ;-)

I used: Rimmel Sky High, Essence Stampy Polish white, L'Oréal Colour Riche 622 Soft Chinchilla, L'Oréal Colour Riche 401 Rouge Pin Up, L'Oréal Colour Riche Sky Fits Heaven, NYC High Line Green, NYC Lexington Yellow, Hema 01 pink (no name), sharpie pen, matte topcoat

Please take your time to check out all the other amazing bloggers that did this challenge with me after the jump. The list has been cleaned up, so that should make it a lot easier =)

Lazy 15 Day Thirteen: Guilty Pleasure

Day Thirteen! We're nearly there guys!

The full theme for today was 'Inspired By Your Guilty Pleasure'. This was a hard one. I have so many guilty pleasures lol. But, right after nail polish, I suppose my biggest guilty pleasure would be vampire novels. From Twilight to Black Dagger Brotherhood and from Anita Blake to Immortals After Dark, I've read them all. Some blood, some lovin', some tortured men and tough heroines, and I'm hooked. Fittingly, the first book in the Anita Blake series is called Guilty Pleasures, so I took that as a sign! Here's what I did:

Anita Blake nails

So. Anita Blake.
Anita Blake is the title character and protagonist of the Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter series by Laurell K. Hamilton.
The series takes place in a parallel world where the supernatural exist alongside regular humans, with Anita's jobs including the re-animation of the dead as well as the hunting and executing of supernatural creatures (mostly vampires) that have broken the law.
The supernatural beings are considered to be citizens with most of the rights of regular humans, which is sometimes the focus of some of the strife in the series.
The novels follow Anita's ongoing conflicts with the supernatural as she attempts to solve a variety of supernatural mysteries, come to terms with her own abilities, and navigate an increasingly complex series of romantic and political relationships.
As the series progresses Anita's perspective on the supernatural changes, as the character initially sees the supernatural predominantly as "monsters" to be fought and later grows to see them as communities to be protected and as potential love interests.
- Wikipedia

I started with black French tips to set the mood. Then I got freehanding =)
  • For the thumb I made a crucifix. Anita has a silver crucifix that is very dear to her.
  • Index finger: Anita's favourite animals are penguins. She has a stuffed little penguin named Sigmund that gives her comfort when nothing else can. Her penguin collection is a recurring theme throughout the series =)
  • Other than vampires, Anita deals with a variety of were-animals. My middle finger represents all those.
  • Ring finger: Yeah. Uhm. Anita has a nice collection of guns. As you might see, I have been fortunate so far in life and have never seen a gun up close.
  • Pinky: I really wanted to stick with the black-silver theme so I was a bit lost at what to do for the last finger. Then I remembered another book in the series is called Obsidian Butterfly, so I stamped a butterfly. Only this morning did I remember Anita loves black coffee so I should have gone for that! But well =)
I messed up with the top coat. I applied it before everything was dry so I suffered some streaks and bubbles. Then I waited a day before I took the pictures because it was dark out by the time I finished, and there were some wear marks already. But well.

My favourite nail was the thumb. I absolutely adored it!

I used: Essie Licorice, GOSH Holographic Hero, Essie Blanc, Essence Get The Fever

Lazy 15 Day Twelve: Fairy Tale

Hi!

Day Twelve of the Lazy 15 brings you a scheduled post since I am at an event in Paris with my boss. Yeah, I know, poor little old me! ETA - seems I didn't schedule this after all, oops!

So, for the theme fairy tale I almost went for Fairy Tails, the beloved toys from my childhood. It was too hard in the end though so this post is just a 'regular' fairy tale mani =)

The theme is Snow White and I think the picture needs no further explaining =)

If you weren't lucky enough to own a Fairy Tail in your youth or had just forgotten about them, this is what they looked like:

I used: Essie Licorice, Essie Blanc, snowflakes from craftstore (meant for miniature railroads), l'Oréal Color Riche 404 Scarlet Vamp, l'Oréal Color Riche 401 Rouge Pin Up, Essence Jungle Fever, Essence Edward's Love

You may have noticed I have recently begun adding watermarks to my pictures. I'm not really worried people will start stealing my pictures (if people want to, they will just remove the watermark, just ask Nailasaurus Sammy), it's more that I've noticed people often come here through Google Image search =)

Next stop: Friday, Guilty Pleasures. Ooooooooh! And as always, don't forget to check out the other people doing the challenge after the *jump*:

Lazy 15 Day Eleven: Fireworks/Bonfire Night

Guys, this challenge is killing me! I don't know how you all do it. Where do you find the time?!
I finally caught up this weekend, phew!

Day Eleven is Fireworks/Bonfire Night. I figured if this worked, I knew what to do for NYE!
I did these nails on my sister, who was kind enough to model so I saved some time during this challenge <3
I came home and noticed the pictures were kind of blurry, gosh, picture-taking sure is my weak spot in this challenge!
Bonfire nail!

I used Essence Jacobs Protection as a base colour. This is from the Twilight Breaking Dawn: Part Two LE so I was really looking forward to trying it. It worked really well for this theme as it's a dark purple with yummy shimmers, but application was hard. It's a runny polish on a wide brush and it needed three coats.

After Jacobs Protection had dried completely, I drew a fire on the thumb using Edward's Love from that same LE and some red.

On the other fingers I drew some fireworks. Silver and a shimmery aqua for index and ring fingers, purple glitters and a dark blue for the middle finger and pinky.

Sorry, I just *had* to get that Spongebob in here.

I actually don't know which colours I used beside Jacobs Protection and Edward's Love, as I used my mother's polishes (!).

That's it for Day Eleven! Check back Wednesday for Day Twelve: Fairy Tale. And as always, don't forget to check out the other people doing the challenge after the *jump*:

Lazy 15 Day Ten: Mythical Water Creatures

Day Ten of the Lazy 15, only three days late. Yikes! I promise I will post Day Eleven today as well. It was a catching-up weekend.

So. Day Ten. I love Egypt with a passion. I have previously done a Sunset in Gizeh mani. Now it's time for another Egyptian mani =)

The theme for day ten in the Lazy 15 was 'Underwater Creatures/Water Mythical Creatures'. So I went with....

Hapi, Egyptian Nile God. Read all about him on Wikipedia! You will also find the pictures there that I based this mani on.

Hapi nail art

I used the colours that represent Hapi, freehanded a Nile Delta and my Geek wrote the hieroglyphs that spell his name on my thumb <3 I can't tell you how proud I am of this nail!

Hieroglyphs
The freehanded Nile Delta didn't come out quite as I had hoped. I mixed some shimmering pigments into Rimmels Bare Necessities to make it look like a dessert, then sponged some green where the Nile makes the land fertile. Finally I used Essie Dive Bar to draw the Nile itself.

Nile Delta

As you can see, I wasted no time on clean up. I was too stressed about being so behind on the challenge! Also, I realised that I'm going to Paris Tuesday and Wednesday to attend a fair, so I have to prepare Day Twelve as well. Why is this called a Lazy challenge?! ;-)

I used:
Thumb: Essie Blanc (which is getting thick =(), Staedler pigment liner
Index finger: Rimmel Bare Necessities mixed with some Essence Smell the Caramel pigment powder, Essence In The Jungle, Essie Dive Bar
Middle finger: blend of Rimmel Blue Vogue and Essie Bikini so Teeny
Ring finger: same blend as middle finger, Essence Sunshine 4ever, Essence In The Jungle
Pinky: Essence In The Jungle

Lazy 15 Day Nine: Disney movies/characters

Day Nine!

So I didn't manage to post Wednesday after all. Which means I am now officially one challenge behind, yikes! I hope to catch up this weekend. Apologies.

Only one picture turned out okay. Ish. Which is such a shame because the mani looked FAB! I was planning on taking more pics later, after proper clean up and final touches, but then my migraine decided to say hi.

Anyway, here it is, my Disney mani:

Flit from Pocahontas nail art

It's Flit! I just love that cheeky little hummingbird. Pocahontas I think is the only Disney movie I've only seen once, and I'm clueless as to why I haven't seen it more often. I even had a poster of Meeko when I was younger. Hmm.

As I mentioned before I've been suffering some breakage which is really messing with the overall look =(

Phew, now that I have posted this, I already feel less behind =) I hope to post Day Ten tomorrow or Sunday, and then to be back on schedule for Day Eleven on Monday =) Thanks for the patience! =)

I used: Rimmel Bright Back At You, L'Oréal Color Riche 210 Shocking Pink, Essie Allure, Essie Blanc

Lazy 15 Day Eight: Dessert

Apologies, this is two days late =( I had the worst migraine of my life on Monday, and I couldn't bear looking at a computer until this morning. I hope you understand.
Luckily I did two days of the challenge over the weekend, so I should be able to post day nine today as well. Because I am now behind on schedule, I didn't take the time to crop the pictures or add a watermark. Also, I am already stressed about day Eleven now that I am no longer ahead of schedule =(

Day Eight of the Lazy 15 meant: Dessert. I expect to see lots of lush drippy cupcake mani's! Can't wait to check them all out =)
Myself? I went for a yummy Black Forest Gateau.

Yum. Black Forest Gateau. (pic: Weightwatchers)

My nails weren't really as yellow as they look here...

Black Forrest Gateau nails, yum!

I made this mani by following the steps below:
1. Get out your tools - tape, scissors, dotting tool, eye shadow applicators, tweezers and polishes.
2. Cut a piece of tape to make it look like a bite. Remember, this will be the 'eaten' part, so shape it like that. Cut other pieces of tape to form a triangle (aka piece of cake) on your nails.
3. Place the tape over your nails. Apply polish.
4. Using tweezers, quickly remove the tape before the polish has a chance to grow tacky!
5. Allow polish to dry. If necessary, add another coat.
6. Place a dollop of white polish on a smooth surface. I like to use tape for this.
Blend white and a drop of yellow polish an a smooth surface.
7. Sponge the mixture onto the edge of the nail to look like a dollop of whipped cream.
8. Dot a dark, rich red onto the whipped cream.
9. Inside that, add a smaller dot of a bright red.
10. Inside that, add a tiny dot of white. The effect should make it look 3D.
11. Add your favourite top coat!

I used: Essie Chocolate Cakes, Essie Blanc, Models Own Lemon Merengue, l'Oréal Color Riche 401 Rouge Pin Up, l'Oréal Color Riche 404 Scarlet Vamp.

Next up is Day Nine: Disney. Ooooh, I <3 Disney  =)

Lazy 15 Day Seven: Feminine Nails

Day Seven of the Lazy 15, and this was another hard one for me. Not because of some challenging technique, but because of the theme. Because what the heck are feminine nails?! Does that mean there are manicures that are not feminine? Granted, the Assassin's Creed mani I have planned may not be exactly feminine, but where is the line?

So, in the end I decided to combine the typically 'girly' heart symbol with neutral colours and a touch of glitter.
This was very hard to photograph (again...) and I kind of messed up the thumb by picking at the edges, forgetting I had used peel-off basecoat. Duh!
I added a matte top coat, but somehow it still looked shiny.

Feminine Nails, yay or nay?
Posing with Queen Bee <3
So, what's your verdict? Feminine nails or did I miss the point entirely?

I used: Essence Iced Latte, Essence Stampy Polish white, Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Disco Ball, Essence stamping set, matte top coat.

Have a great weekend and check back Monday for Day Eight: Dessert.
Also, you will find a list of all participants of the Lazy 15 Challenge after the jump. Have fun =)

Lazy 15 Day Six: Favourite Colour

How impossible is this challenge?! Favourite colour! I'm not sure I even have a favourite colour. And if I have, that doesn't mean it's my favourite polish colour. Grmbl. So for this one I had to think out of the box!

And I went for... Essie Chocolate Cakes. Hellooo, the name is Chocolate Cakes. And hellooo, it looks *just* like chocolate <3 It might look somewhat reddish in the pictures (if you can look past all the reflections, goodness, and this is without top coat!) but it's seriously lickable =)

I have written before about how this was an accidental buy (case of mistaken identity combined with laziness and hurry) so it's quite lucky that I have come to love this polish so much.

Hardly an exciting, artsy manicure, but doesn't this look like I dipped my fingers in a chocolate fountain?

On a side note, I finally registred with Etsy today... I've been able to stay away from it for so long, but I bought some handmade jewellery (that sounds way more decadent than it is) today so I registred. I managed to stay away from all the frankens and indies though! For now...

I used: Essie Chocolate Cakes.

I was wondering if we need to add our blogs to the link thingy for every mani? I have only added my main url (once), but I've noticed some people adding a link for each mani. Are we supposed to do this?

Check back Friday for Day Seven: Feminine Nails. Yikes!
Also, you will find a list of all participants of the Lazy 15 Challenge after the jump.

Lazy 15 Day Five: Galaxy Nails

Day five of the Lazy 15 Challenge has arrived, and it has brought us Galaxy Nails.

I had done these before, and I loved doing them again. This might just be the only day in the challenge I wasn't anxious about ;-)
I decided to use some different colours, just to see how much of a difference it would make. Also, I didn't use my sponges but some eye shadow applicators. However, I think the overall effect is so eye-popping that individual colours don't really matter!
If you're not sure how to do Galaxy nails: this is the tutorial I followed the first time, and I still follow that order of colours.

This was really hard to photograph, as you will see from the pictures. I really loved the mani though!

Galaxy mani

I used: Rimmel Blue Vogue, Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Disco Ball, Essie Blanc, Essence Check me Out, OPI Tomorrow Never Dies, Sally Hansen Marine Scene, Essie Licorice, Essence Louise (from Twins series Thelma & Louise).

Check back Wednesday for Day Six: Favourite Colour. Also, you will find a list of all participants of the Lazy 15 Challenge after the jump.

Lazy 15 Day Four: Water Marble

Hi,

welcome to day four of the Lazy 15 Challenge! And oh boy! What a challenge =) Water marble, another thing I have never tried. Until now, that is!

So, I started with reading this tutorial. Then I gathered my stuff and started marbling!
Instead of wrapping my fingertips with tape I dipped my fingers into the Vaseline jar and then wiped the Vaseline of the nail. I went for a neon marble, because how cool would that be if it worked?

I had some trouble with the white polish. I didn't want to use the white polish that was in the OPI set, because, well, it's tiny. I tried Essie Blanc instead, but it hardened two seconds into the water so it was no use =( I ended up using the OPI mini after all.

I have this Vaseline jar, which makes dipping easy:
Picture: Unilever
neon polish nail art challenge
Neon water marble

As you can see from the pictures, I tried out several patterns, thought I'd make the most of it =)

I think it's quite obvious from the pictures that this was my first watermarble. But I have to say I am less intimidated by the whole thing now and will definitely try marbling again!

I used: OPI white base, OPI Ridiculously Yellow, OPI Formidably Orange, OPI Seriously Purple (OPI Outrageous Neons mini set)

Check back Monday for Day 5: Galaxy Nails =)

Lazy 15 Day Three: Dots

ETA: I have turned off captcha, so keep the comments coming =)

Day Three of the Lazy 15 Challenge: Dots. I'm enjoying this challenge so much, I can spend hours just checking what all the other participants have come up with. So inspiring!
I am somewhat bummed however, because I desperately want to do a Assassin's Creed III mani but there's just no time :|

Well, on to today's mani. I had done dotting before and I'm quite happy with my dotting tool, so I was not too worried about this day. However, my design turned out to be somewhat more challenging then I thought =S

It was the first time trying my lap work space, and I can say I'm really happy with it =)

I broke the nail on my index finger the other day so it's a bit weird-looking. I'll file it to a more pleasant shape tonight.

Holy Holographics, Batman!

Can you see what the pattern is? No? I feared so. How about this picture:

Just squint, you'll see it
Still no? Okay =( This was my inspiration:

Can you see it now? Maybe if you squint a bit? Ring finger is hearts, middle finger spades. Yes. S-P-A-D-E-S. Oh well. Better luck for the water marble =(

I used: GOSH Holographic Hero, Essie Blanc, Essie Licorice, l'Oréal Color Riche 401 Rouge Pin Up

Wow, look at how many people are doing this challenge now! Awesome. Check them out after the jump, you'll be inspired.

My new nail workspace

Happy Election Day everyone in the US!

Maybe the 'workspace' in the blogtitle sounds a bit... Pretentious.
But anyhow, my Geek and his brother were helping their parents around the house over the weekend. He came home at night with this:

<3
I prefer to do my nails in front of the television. Between me working in another city, him being in two bands and the occasional meeting with friends, we hardly have any time together so I really don't want to go into another room to do my nails when we're both home. However, the table in front of the sofa is too low so my back is not happy with this. I thought Friday that maybe getting a laptop lap-table thingy would be a good idea, and that I should look into it.

But then without me even so much as mentioning it (or maybe in my sleep?) my Geek comes home with this beauty. It even has a light! And a little cup holder or as I call it, polish holder =)
Now I can just throw my legs over his lap, sit back and still do my nails, with proper lighting and not worrying about the cat (or me) knocking over the polish. And he can just watch annoying shows like Family Guy or whatever.

So here's a pic of me using the table for applying my basecoat. Yeah!

A light AND a polish holder!
I can't wait to properly try it tonight for the Dot manicure. I'll let you guys know if it's a succes! I got mine because GeekDad was throwing it out, but I've checked online and they seem to be not too expensive. Of course, should they be of no use, every penny spent is one too many so I can't wait to find out.

Lazy 15 Day Two: Gradient

Hello again, day two of the Lazy 15 Challenge. I can't wait to see what all the others have come up with =)

Like I promised, I did not use the Day One half gradient as the mani for today. I love gradients so I was more than happy to do another one.

I thought about doing clashing colours, I really want to try that. But as I kept staring at my stash, trying decide which colours to pick, three other colours just jumped into my hands so I had to go with them.

As a base I used Rimmel Sky High. It's looks so much better then it does in the bottle <3
Then I sponged Rimmel Bright Back at You and Essence Show Your Feet: In The Jungle on for the gradient. In the Jungle is actually a toe nail polish - the bottle says it's 'antibacterial, extremely long lasting and gives great coverage in just one coat'. I have only used it once on my toes and it was fantastic, but one test is not enough for me to be confident enough to endorse the claims. But, just thought I'd mention it.

Lazy 15 Day One: Tape Mani

Hi!

Today is the first day of my first challenge, whoop whoop! And if that weren't exciting anough, it's the Tape Mani, which is also a first for me! So, here it goes:

Purple gradient nails
Purple prettiness, no flash, daylight

Purple prettiness and Queen Bee, no flash, artificial light

As always, *click* to enlarge

I covered one half of each nail with tape. Then I sponged my gradient on. I applied the polish on a sheet of plastic then picked it up with the sponge, rather than applying it directly on to the sponge itself. But that's just the technique I prefer.

As you can see, I had some trouble finding the middle of my nails so I placed the tape slightly off on some nails. But all in all, the effect is quite cool and it's not like anyone is going to be measuring both sides. At least, I hope so...

And before you ask, no, I am not cheating and using this as the gradient mani for Monday ;-) I just really like gradients =D I'm sure others will post insanely delicate tape manis +( But, I'm just gettiong started, please bear with me.

Ultraviolet and Tomorrow Never Dies are both such amazing colours. I love them both and I was very happy to see they combined well! I only lost the amazing shimmer Tomorrow Never Dies has, but that was to be expected in a gradient.

That's it for Day One, check back Monday for the Gradient Mani!

I used: Rimmel Ultraviolet, OPI Tomorrow Never Dies, Essence Gel Look top coat

And don't forget to check out the other Lazy 15 guys and gals, I've been checking these blogs pretty much every hour since yesterday, haha! You can find the list after the jump:

I am doing my first challenge! Yay! I know I will probably feel so incompetent seeing all the other manis but I'm just going to do it =) It will be fun!

Since I can't for the life of me do, photograph and post a mani each day for 31 days, I was thrilled to see....
