Bye Bye Summer =(

*Sad face*
Summer is definitely over where I am =( We did have some warm sunny days October last year so who knows what's to come, but right now, it's rainy, cloudy, windy, sometimes even stormy. No wonder I'm sick.

So, I wanted a cool, festive mani to celebrate the summer, as it was a good one =) I decided to go for a beachy scene. I even tried my hand at stamping again and it went perfectly! Until I somehow managed to pull the polish and thus ruined the ice cream stamp =(

Shimmery beaches

Blah, poor pulled ice cream =(

I took these pictures before applying any top coat. Unfortunately, this meant any bumps and bubbles I hadn't spotted real-life, showed up nice and obvious in the pictures =( Oh well.

I used: Essence Gold Rush over Rimmel Bare Necessities, Sally Hansen Marine Scene over Rimmel Aqua Cool, Essie Too Too Hot (stamping), l'Oréal Jet Set 202 (starfish)

Splatter Stamping

Hi!
Sorry for the hiatus, I've been feeling a bit under the weather. This first reflected in not being able to finish a mani and then not being able to muster the energy to go online and post. I'm not quite there yet, but it's getting better =)
And can I just say how different cats and dogs are?! Whenever I'd been ill at home, the dog(s) would cuddle up to me and not make a peep or move an inch until I indicated it was okay and they would give me tender kisses. This kitten however... It's like it's thinking "Yay, you're HOME! Look at all the mischief I am up to!"

Oh well. On to todays mani.

Splatter, splatter =)

Okay, I have no clue why this picture was turned upright when uploading. And to be honest, I can't quite be bothered to find out and correct it. Apologies. Also, Queen B is docked right now so I used my other controller for the picture =)
So! The mani. I have been attempting stamping for over a year now. I can never do it! I have tried different, sets, brands, polished, the lot. I just have no talent. I keep trying every now and then, and when this looked... not all that bad, I decided to just add some polish to make it pop more =)

I added this flash picture to show Dive Bar better. All in all, I thought it was a fun autumn mani! And I was quite pleased at how well Lexington Yellow looked on Dive Bar.

I used: Essie Dive Bar, NYC Lexington Ave, Essence stamping polish, Essie Too Too Hot

Review: Essence Peel Off base coat

As I mentioned in my previous post, I tried Essence Peel Off base coat. Originally part of the Ready for Boarding LE, it now seems to been added to the regular assortment.I missed the LE so I used the one on the right.

First thoughts? It looks and smells like crafts glue. Remembering crafts glue and its qualities from my childhood, it actually made sense to me, too.
After some browsing, I found out I'm not the only one who noticed the resemblance with some people even going so far as to use crafts glue now as a base coat!

Clean nail
Step One: apply a generous amount of basecoat. Clean the edges.

Directly after applying
Step two: wait ten minutes for polish to dry. It will become transparent. This took about two minutes for me. It keeps feeling slightly rubbery even after ten minutes.

Half a minute after applying
One minute after applying

90 seconds after applying
Sorry about the difference in lighting. I had to take the pictures quickly (obviously) and there were some clouds :(

After ten minutes, I applied my polishes for the Warrior Princess mani. I wore that for two days I decided to matte it and boy! It was the first mani I didn't like matte :-( So it was time for The Big Peel Off!
I started by just using one fingernail to push the polish from the cuticles towards the top of the nail. This wrinkled and peeled the polish.

Tadaaa! That's my thumb with the polish that had been on there just a minute earlier. No need for remover, cotton balls, or whatever =) For the first time I didn't instantly want to grab my hand lotion.  I think it's a great idea, I will be lots less hesitant to use glitters! Plus, I love the idea that I can just remove my polish whenever I fancy, even on a busy train or at the office.
I have to say though, my sister (and guest author) didn't manage to get the polish on top smooth, she kept seeing ridges.

They advise to keep away from warm water for two hours after applying this polish so you'd better not do this before taking a shower! All in all, what do you think? Cool or yucky?

Warrior Princess

Hello again!

So, I'm back from my holiday, it was a great week. I sorely missed my polishes though :-( I'd taken only a handful of them + my favourite topcoat but I missed browsing my stash and sitting down to paint, or being able to translate any kind of inspiration into nail art immediately. Anyhow, I'm back now!

On to todays mani:

Yes, please do click to enlarge =)
I have no idea what made me name this Warrior Princess. Maybe because I feel quite cool and tough with this on my nails?

Anyhow. We came back from France Saturday night. I treated my nails with some TLC (being Essence nail oil, drug store hand cream and KOH calcium base coat). I had had some bad news Friday night so I cut my nails short and removed my polish (does anyone else do that? I feel bad and first thing I do is cut and clean my nails), discovering a nasty reddish discolouration. This was a first for me from an Essie polish :-( So this made me decide to wait 48 hours before applying new polish. Naturally I never made the 48 hours. After 42, I applied Essence Peel Off base coat. Review is coming later this week aka as soon as I remove this mani to show you some pics of the results!

So when Sunday evening arrived, I got up to grab Essence Iced Latte. But it was gone! I moaned and whimpered at my Geek for a few minutes until deciding to go ahead and use Rimmel Bare Necessities instead. Of course, he would tell me it's virtually the same but we all know it's not even close ;-) In fact- here's a picture of my two favourite nudes (ha!):

I wanted to combine nudes and metallics. I grabbed Dive Bar and went for a thin French manicure style. That sort of bored me... So I added some spice by adding the vertical line. That was such an improvement! However, I still felt it wasn't finished. So I grabbed Mrs and Mr Glitter and my dotting tool and added three specks (one of each colour in Mrs and Mr Glitter) on each nail. I added Essence Quick Dry topcoat instead of Gel Look because... I haven't found my nail travel bag yet! We've been unpacking and doing laundry and honestly we didn't pack much, so I'm afraid it's somewhere in the car :-(
Mrs and Mr Glitter
I had to wait until morning to take the pictures but I spent a good part of the evening staring at my nails adoringly ;-)
When I photographed them this morning, they actually reminded me of The Whale Tail by The Nailasaurus. This was not intentional, but I suppose having seen this mani before, it's very well possible it was stored somewhere in my subconscious. Either way, I'm all for linking to great mani's by great artists so go and check it out!

And this morning, I found Iced Latte! It had been in its usual spot all along! *facepalm*

Can you tell I missed blogging? Ha!

I used: Essence Peel Off basecoat (review coming later this week), Rimmel Bare Necessities, Essie Dive Bar, Essence Mrs and Mr Glitter, Essence Quick Dry topcoat

Inspiration

* scheduled post due to holiday in la douce France*

No mani today. Instead, let's talk about inspiration.

What inspires you?
Anything can be an inspiration for me. And I honestly mean ANYTHING. From a song I hear on the radio to a piece of fruit my colleague is having for lunch. Sometimes I get an idea and check to see if and how others have turned it in to nail art. If this happens I usually end up browsing nail art sites for ages! Stupid mobile phones make it so easy... So who is my inspiration? Check out these guys (gals), they have some awesome techniques, tutorials or ideas.
