NOTD: Ice Princess

Okay, technically these are not my nails of today. Hope you don't mind, as they are still prettyyyyy.

Isn't this such a perfectly wintery mani? <3

Base is three coats of OPI Solitarie (two on index finger).
Thumb: one coat of Let It Glitter Let it Snow.
Ring finger: two coats of Darling Diva Polish Care Bare Stare. It was better with one coat :-(

Dramatic Mrs. Santa

Hi pretties!

It's december already, can you believe it?! Time for Christmas-related polishes and nail art.
Since my mother, sister and I will be back in Egypt for Christmas, I won't be doing Christmas nails on the day(s). But now! Here are the first. And YES! My brushes from BornPrettyStore finally arrived. Check my thumb to see my fist experiment using them =)

If you look closely, you will see Let It Glitter! Santa Baby is not just different sizes of red glitter, but also black hearts. I love it! This is two coats.

I used: OPI Alpine Snow, Hema red polish (no name), Essie Licorice, Let It Glitter! Santa Baby.

Misunderstood Nail Girl

Every now and then people say the weirdest things to me. So much so, that I figured I would make a post about these quotes! I can't wait to hear if any of these have ever been said to you, or if you have other weird quotes.

'I couldn't possibly buy that polish you recommended me- I already have twenty polishes!'

'So... Holographic is basically just glitter?'
OMG I freaked over this one.
  1. There is no such thing as JUST glitter!
  2. It's not glitter, it's HOLO!
'Is this polish I am wearing orange? My mum says it's orange.'
It wasn't orange. It was a perfect salmon. OPI Hot & Spicy.

And of course the much heard 'Don't you already own a pink/purple/red/etc polish?'
Plus the related "I see you are out of storage room. I suppose you're done now?"

Now, for some Nail Polish memes! I found the first two over at NailsLikeLace, so go and check out the other memes there.

This one was sent in for a giveaway over at The Polish Addict. As a Trekkie, I love this even more :D
Seriously, get a thinner! I love the one by OPI.

This I found over at YouGotNailz. My younger sister and I know this entire movie by heart so I sing this meme, rather than read it =D

And this one, over at WOW Polish. Heehee.

I also just had to make one myself. Wonder if any of you can relate? ;-)

My Lacquer Family posted this gem just today:
Great. Now I'll have that song stuck in my head for the next couple of days.

What is your favourite nail polish meme? Or what is the weirdest thing someone ever said to you about nail polish? Let me know!

Euro Indies: Let It Glitter

Pretties,

today I have something for you that I personally find very exciting. It will be a lengthy, picture heavy post so I've added a break.
By now everyone is familiar with indie polishes and can name two or three brands. Relatively harder to find though, are European indie polishes. I think this is partly because it's just so friggin' hard to get a good suspension base here. Most companies are hesitant to risk shipping them due to shippers' policies.

So, you can imagine how excited I was to discover a Dutch indie brand! Guys, let me introduce you to Let It Glitter.

And really, the name says it all. If it's not glitter, this girl isn't making and selling it. I decided on half of the Christmas collection. The Christmas collection is divided in two sets (clever!), being 'Winter' and 'Wonderland'. I got 'Winter', and today I'm showing you the polish that made my mind up <3
The polishes arrived quickly and there was a personal note attached. I just love that <3

First, this is 'Winter':

Let It Snow, Christmas Eve, Jingle Bells, Santa Baby and Gingerbread Man (Etsy/letitglitter)

Doesn't Suzanne take the prettiest pics of her polishes?

Super Easy Nail Art: Brick Lane Gradient

Happy Monday pretties! Hope you all had a fantastic weekend.

Another super easy mani for you today. Super easy but quite fetching, I think!
I have written about Nails Inc Brick Lane before. I love how easy it is to change your entire mani with just a splash of it. For this look I first did a gradient of grey and blue, then added one coat of Brick Lane. I love this look! I think it's good all year round.

I used: Rimmel Grey Matter, OPI Unfor-Greta-bly Blue, Nails Inc Brick Lane

NOTD: Darling Diva Polish Get Off

Pretties,I know I am behind on my nail art. Good thing it's FRIDAY today so I'll be able to finally sit down and do my nails properly. I hope you are all looking at a fantastic weekend =)

Quick Nails of The Day. Nail polish of the Day, actually.

This is Darling Diva Polish Get Off. I got this by ordering the 5 for 25 deal on their Etsy. This means you get five polishes that are no longer listed. I love this deal!

Get Off actually is still listed, but the swatch is different. As you can see, my Get Off dries up more blue-silvery than you'd expect from the bottle. No problem for me, as I went into this without any expectations. I love it just the way it is <3

This is what you get if you order a bottle of Get Off:

Source: Etsy
Because of this and the fact that they say they put no longer listed polishes in this deal, I actually think my bottle may be labeled incorrectly. Either way, I love the polish.

Have you ever tried deals like this one? Any deals to recommend me?

Halloween NAC Day 4: Gothic

Pretties! Second post of the day! Prompt 4 of the Halloween Nail Art Challenge: Gothic. This was pretty difficult, because when I think 'gothic' I think black but there's nothing really nail artsy about black nails.

So. Here's what I came up with as I went:

Base: Nails Inc Tate. My first ever Nails Inc polish. My first ever not-drugstore brand, even. It's quite old but still lush <3
Black: Invogue Black Magic (concrete finish)
Silver: Nails Inc Cambridge Terrace
Matte topcoat on her index finger is not really dramatic, unfortunately

My mum was kind enough to let me do this manicure on her nails. Brave!

Right. That's it for today! Check back tomorrow for Day 5: Trick or Treat. I'm off now to check out the other participants:

Halloween NAC Day 3: Things That Go BUMP in The Night

Yeah, I know I'm late again =( I visited my family for a few days so I didn't get around to posting. I will be catching up today (two posts) so I expect to be back on schedule for tomorrow's post. Yay!

Day Three meant Things That Go BUMP in the night. Oh boy. When I googled that phrase, I came across the freakiest link ever. Here it is, if you're up for some scares, goosebumps and stuff.

For this mani I really wanted to try Zom-Body to Love, the glow in the dark polish by OPI that came with the Spookettes set. However, the effect was so weak that I had to change my plans :-( I know the polish is two years old so I was probably expecting too much of it. So here's what I did after the first attempt underwhelmed.
ease halloween nail art
The pic is a bit dull, I'm not sure why.

For the thumb and pinky I did two coats of Darling Diva Cougar followed by two coats of Darling Diva Pot o 'Gold. I added eyes on the thumb but now I think it was too much.
For the pointer finger I did something is saw at Kitty's Painted Claws. I just received Pumpkin Queen by Darling Diva (can you tell I love Darling Diva?!) so I added that over one coat of Essie Licorice, followed by a matte topcoat.
Middle and ring finger are OPI Alpine Snow with DDP Cougar and DDP Pot o 'Gold (middle) Essie Licorice (ring).

So this is my mani for Day Three. I couldn't stop staring at my thumb and pinky! Pot o'Gold is fantastic. It looks just like scales! The gold hexes are holo <3

Halloween NAC Day 2: Pumpkins & Jack O'Lanterns

Day two of the Halloween Nail Art Challenge!

Day two brings us Pumpkins and Jack O'Lanterns. I have so much love for pumpkins <3 We have one of those lights shown above at home. So I was pumped (ha!) to do a mani themed around them!

Pumpinks/Jack O 'Lanterns are orange. Orange is a colour most (normal?) people don't have in their stash. Every year, I 'realise' I don't have an orange polish and panic. Until I actually check my polishes. Ahem.
Oops. Seems I have no shortage of orange polishes ;-)

  • First, I drew circles with Essie Meet Me At Sunset on my nails.
  • Then I took my nail art brush and used OPI He's My Boo (Spookettes set) to make the circles into pumpkins.
  • Then I applied Rimmel Blue Vogue around the pumpkins to make it look like night.
  • Then I used l'Oréal Banana Pop, Essence Get The Fever and Essie Licorice to make it look like there was a light inside the pumpkins. I'm not entirely happy with the effect, but if you don't look so closely (for example if you just look at my nails in real life), it looks alright.
  • Finally I used a nail art brush to apply Miss Sporty Check Matte on top of the Blue Vogue, to give it that satin-y, velvet-y feel dark nights can have.

Yes, I purposely placed my watermark there to camouflage my cuticles ;-)

I really enjoyed this prompt! I'm a bit wary about the next prompt: Things that go BUMP in the night. Well, check back the day after tomorrow to see if I managed to come up with anything!

Halloween Nail Art Challenge: Scary Movies

Helloooo and welcome to prompt one of the Halloween Nail Art Challenge! I know I'm a bit late but I promise Day 2 will be right on time (as in, tomorrow).

Day 1 meant Scary Movies. Yeah. I hate scary movies. They scare me! After asking around a bit and not being happy with any of the suggestions (most people suggested the mask from Scream or intricate designs that I knew I would never be able to do), I knew I needed to think outside the box. So, I went with an Ouija board design! Because, let's face it-  each movie that features an Ouija board teaches us it's Not A Good Idea.

For those of you unfamiliar with Ouija boards, here is an example:
Source: Wikipedia
Fun fact: when researching designs for Ouija boards, I learned that the heart-shaped thingy that moves over the board is called a Planchette. Who knew? Not me.

From Wikipedia:
The Ouija board (WEE-jə) also known as a spirit board or talking board, is a flat board marked with the letters of the alphabet, the numbers 0-9, the words "yes", "no", "hello" (occasionally), and "goodbye", along with various symbols and graphics. (....)
It uses a planchette (small heart-shaped piece of wood) or movable indicator to indicate the spirit's message by spelling it out on the board during a séance. Participants place their fingers on the planchette, and it is moved about the board to spell out words. (...)
Mainstream religions and some occultists have associated use of a Ouija board with the concept of demonic possession, and view the use of the board as a spiritual threat and have cautioned their followers not to use a Ouija board.
Despite being criticized by the scientific community and deemed superstitious by traditional Christians, Ouija remains popular among many people.
So. Here is my mani:
Believe me, I will be thrilled when my nail art brushes arrive, hopefully next week. If you look at my pinky finger, you'll know what I mean.
I was expecting the planchette to pop out more as I matted everything else. Unfortunately, no such luck.

I used: The New Black Gold Grenade, OPI German-icure by OPI, Essie Licorice, Miss Sporty matte top coat

I loved this first prompt of the challenge! So exciting do do another challenge and can't wait to see what everyone else has come up with.

Comparison: Cybele Blue Ray vs OPI Tomorrow Never Dies

Pretties, it's time to compare two polishes to see if they are dupes!
Ten months ago I bought Cybele polishes in Egypt. This was just after I had gotten some polishes from the OPI James Bond collection, so this one polish really jumped out at me, since it looked extremely similar to Tomorrow Never Dies.

So, ten months on, here is the comparison post! Are they dupes? Let's see...

The bottle shot. Pretty similar, non?

Here are the polishes on my nails. Three coats for each. You could probably get away with two for both polishes, but I took no risks.
Left to right, this is... Hmm. Hang on. I wrote it down somewhere...
Ah! Here it is:

Are they dupes? The bottom two pictures make me think the OPI is somewhat more purple. But I never saw that in real life. No matter what, I think it's so cool that a made in Egypt brand is putting out polishes that look almost identical to OPI!

Needless to say, I'll be going back to the store to buy some more of these polishes this Christmas!

Thanks for reading! Check back Sunday for the first prompt of the Halloween Nail Art Challenge :-)

Mini Review: Darling Diva G-Spot

Oh lord. This is going to get me some strange hits through Google...

Anyway. As you may have guessed from 'my' prize in the Pink & Polished giveaway, I love Darling Diva polishes. I think they are fantastic quality and don't look like your average indie. I know, that sounds dumb, there is no 'average indie', but it's just how I feel. Hard to explain.

Some time ago I found this little gem, G-Spot. I just had to have it! I love a naughty polish name and it looked amazing. I ordered it and when it arrived, it was everything I expected and more <3 So vibrant!

For your reference, this was the picture on Etsy.

Below pictures are four thin coats. I don't mind this as much as I do with other polishes, because it means it's easy to get the glitters and stuff where you want them. No fishing required.

Any lumpiness is optical illusion or the shape of my nails. The polish is perfect.

Indie Darling Diva purple red glitter
Look at that pretty bottle <3

I know, it doesn't need any spicing up, but the Halloween-lover in me is already moving towards some 'darker' mani's. This is a gradient with l'Oréal Scarlet Vamp.

Purple Passion

Pretties, it's time for another super easy nail art!

Thumb: Hema purple shimmer polish & Nails Inc Graffiti Brick Lane
Index: gradient of Hema purple shimmer polish and Hema pale purple holo
Middle: Hema pale purple holo
Ring: gradient of both Hema polishes, topped with Brick Lane
Pinky: reverse gradient of both Hema polishes

This mani was done within 5 minutes (the Hema polishes dry really quickly) and the effect is quite dramatic!

This is the darker, not holo purple polish I used. It was a gift from friends =)

Assassin's Creed: Black Flag

Hi pretties! Time for another easy mani.

This wasn't supposed to be an easy mani. As I mentioned in this post, we went to a gaming exhibition last weekend so I really wanted to do an Assassin's Creed: Black Flag mani for the occassion. Because I had next to no time at all, I decided to just paint the logo on my thumb and add some Kiss studs since I hadn't done any mani's with studs recently.
This logo:

Pretty cool, huh? But, there came a moment when the studs were sticking, polish was drying and I realised I was running out of time for the thumbs. Luckily, I remembered this post by Varnished Valkyrie and realised I hadn't used my Nails Inc skulls yet!

So it turned into a bit of a bad ass rock mani rather than a Assassin's Creed-specific mani.
But I tell you, these skulls are great. You can't really tell from the pictures but there are nine Swarovski crystals in the 'forehead' part of the skull. So glam!

I used: nailgirls white #1, Essie Licorice, Nails Inc skull, Kiss studs

World Animal Day

Hi pretties! Did everyone have a good weekend? We went to a gaming exhibition kind of thing (mani to follow), had dinner with friends in a town between where they live and where we live, then ended the night with a pub quiz.

Last Friday was World Animal Day. I hope you were all extra nice to animals around you, maybe you even visited a shelter and/or donated some food or toys? Were you all rocking some cool animal-themed manis?

Here is my World Animal Day mani:
Yeah, the zebra kinda looked weird so I kept going back with my striper only to make it worse. I really liked the frog and tiger print though!

And here's a bonus picture of Ezio. Hey, if you're sick of him yet, just let me know.
He is very interested in our robot vacuum cleaner (Sammie). Here he is waiting until it's time to get vacuuming again. Honestly, this robot is a win-win. The house gets cleaner while I'm doing my nails (bye bye, guilty conscience) and the cat is entertained. I can only recommend it!

I used: Rimmel Aqua Cool, black striper, L'Oréal Colour Riche Banana Pop, Hema orange polish (no name), Rimmel Rain Rain Go Away. l'Oréal Color Riche 404 Scarlet Vamp, l'Oréal Color Riche 401 Rouge Pin up, Essie Licorice, nailgirls white polish, Miss Sporty Matte topcoat

Literary French

Oops. I wrote on Facebook that I was posting this mani yesterday, but never got around to taking the pictures. Even now, I only have one shitty one =(

I got the OPI Spookettes set some days ago and I knew I needed to do a mani RIGHT AWAY. I chose to use Mummy Knows Best and I Only Date Werewolves (IODW). I had the idea in my mind (spent the entire day at work designing it in my mind haha), added a strip of striping tape on each nail and applied IODW.
Yikes! It was so... smokey! I really expected it to be opaque in one coat like Essie Licorice, but I had to do two coats. Which of course meant trouble for the striping part- there's no way you can get it a crisp line if you don't remove the tape immediately after applying the polish.

I added white tips, used the paper and transfer solution from my The New Black - Weekly Journal set. Then another strip of striping tape where the black and white polish met on each nail, and finally a top coat.

I really love the Weekly Journal set. Sure, newspaper nails can be done cheaper, but I love the fact that the texts are all happy words and they are printed mirrored, so on your nails, they are actually correct!

Beautezine.com
This mani was actually a bit harder than I expected. The problem with only having the print on the tips, is that the piece of paper is too small to get a good grip. So it moved around a bit =( I was still quite happy with the look though! It looked like a Rock&Roll version of the French mani =)

Well, that's it for now! Check back tomorrow for some World Animal Day nail art!
