Update and St Patrick's Day nails!

Hey guys, remember me? Once again, I fell off the face of the Earth! Or something like that...

Actually, these past few months I have been busy setting up my own indie nail polish brand. I'm so excited!
So, does this mean I'm giving up nail art? No! As soon as I'm done with things like setting up my Etsy store, I will have more time to do my nails. Unless my brand becomes insanely succesfull overnight, which I don't expect ;-)
I won't be posting about my polishes here, so if you want to know more about my brand and take a look behind the scenes, I will be posting links to Instagram, Facebook and the Etsy store as soon as they are up and running.

Mani
Now that that's out of the way, here is another easy mani for you. It was my St Patrick's Day mani. And it didn't work out quite as I had expected =(

For Christmas I got Essie Shake Your $$ Makers. A glorious green in the bottle. But on the nail? It underwhelms.

Shake Your $$ Makers is marketed as a matte neon green. It reminded me of... I don't know. Circuit boards. It's impossible to not have a VNL with this polish. For the mani below, I used four coats. And then I ran out of patience, so I continued with the other nails.

I used: Essie Shake Your $$ Makers, Essence A Piece of Forever, Darling Diva Pot o'Gold, Kiss nail stud.

Thanks for sticking around!

Halloween NAC Day 2: Pumpkins & Jack O'Lanterns

Day two of the Halloween Nail Art Challenge!

Day two brings us Pumpkins and Jack O'Lanterns. I have so much love for pumpkins <3 We have one of those lights shown above at home. So I was pumped (ha!) to do a mani themed around them!

Pumpinks/Jack O 'Lanterns are orange. Orange is a colour most (normal?) people don't have in their stash. Every year, I 'realise' I don't have an orange polish and panic. Until I actually check my polishes. Ahem.
Oops. Seems I have no shortage of orange polishes ;-)

  • First, I drew circles with Essie Meet Me At Sunset on my nails.
  • Then I took my nail art brush and used OPI He's My Boo (Spookettes set) to make the circles into pumpkins.
  • Then I applied Rimmel Blue Vogue around the pumpkins to make it look like night.
  • Then I used l'Oréal Banana Pop, Essence Get The Fever and Essie Licorice to make it look like there was a light inside the pumpkins. I'm not entirely happy with the effect, but if you don't look so closely (for example if you just look at my nails in real life), it looks alright.
  • Finally I used a nail art brush to apply Miss Sporty Check Matte on top of the Blue Vogue, to give it that satin-y, velvet-y feel dark nights can have.

Yes, I purposely placed my watermark there to camouflage my cuticles ;-)

I really enjoyed this prompt! I'm a bit wary about the next prompt: Things that go BUMP in the night. Well, check back the day after tomorrow to see if I managed to come up with anything!

A Leopard and his Spots

Pretties,

slowly but surely I am finding my way back to blogging. Thank you so much for sticking by me. I'm planning a giveaway as soon as I'm really back to business!

For this mani I finally used my OPI Black Spotted that I got in the Sephora clear out. I had been struggling to find a good use for it. Now, inspired by the cat stickers that I got from Etsy, a leopard print came to mind! Nothing too spectacular. But I'm getting there =)

I have no idea what happened to the Black Spotted on my index finger. Weird.
I used: Essence A Piece of Forever, OPI Black Spotted, vinyl sticker

Kings of Leon Nail Art

Hi there!

Maybe you knew from my profile pic, but I am a HUGE Kings of Leon fan. I urge every one of you to go and check out songs OTHER than Use Somebody, Sex on Fire and Notion. I call those the Hellish Trinity because those are the songs everyone knows and every cover band plays. Don't get me wrong, they are great songs but Kings of Leon have so many amazing songs. Wilder, more bad-ass, laden with raw emotion, stuff like that.
And the amazing ballad Arizona which is actually about a beautiful prostitute in a whorehouse in Arizona. I wrote that bit in white as to not offend anyone. Select it with your cursor if you are curious!

I was lucky enough to see them live two years ago, and last weekend I got to see them again <3 They are doing a European tour this summer and played a festival nearby. So of course I had to do Kings of Leon nails! I came up with the idea of using the US cover for Only By The Night quite quickly. However, after some practising I realised I was never going to do this on ten nails. So My Geek helped me with some design suggestions. This is what I ended up with =)

Kings of Leon nail art easy

For your reference, this is the US album cover:

It's two birds of prey locked in battle. Yeah. Good luck with that. It takes a more talented nail art enthousiast to pull that off.
So I just used polish thinner to get a water colour effect, which unfortunately doesn't really come across on the photograph. Several people noticed and complimented me, though =) The golden circle thingies were like tiny discoballs on my nails <3 The sun really played with them.

Here are two pictures of the evening:

Click to enlarge. I'd like to think Jared (<3) made eye contact here ;-)
Have you ever done your nails as an ode to your favorite band/artist? I'd love to see them!

Aluminum Mix

Hello again my lovely followers,

Recently I became a member of a beauty swap group on Facebook. I think it's a fantastic initiative!

My first swap was with a girl that wanted a Mavala polish and a drugstore brand polish my sister had given me because she had three of them. So, pretty painless for me really! She sent me her swap list and I spotted Nails Inc Cambridge Terrace. Cambridge Terrace! The swap was completed and I was thrilled to receive this beauty of a polish <3

After just staring at it for two days (two days! And no chipping at all!) I had to do some nail art with it. So, here it is:

Base is two coats of Cambridge Terrace.
- Thumb is some free-hand heart-thingy
- Index is one coat of NYC Rock Muse
- Middle finger is a Bourjois sticker from the Pshiit set
- Ring finger is drug store brand crackle
- Pinky is stamping using an Essence plate and Essence Stampy Polish

You can really see how gorgeous Cambridge Terrace is on the middle finger <3 My Geek said it was aluminum!

Would you ever swap cosmetics online?

Lavender Galaxies

Lovelies,
Even though the look is probably 'passed', I still love Galaxy nails. Love, love, love them. But even I am done with dark nails now, and really up for some bright colours! So, why not make Galaxy nails, but using other colours?

I initially considered doing neon galaxies, but quickly realised it was failure waiting to happen. So I continued with lavender. I started with a white base but soon realised I needed a dark base colours for depth so switched the intended order in which to apply the polishes.

In the end I think the look is more 'water colour' than 'galaxy'. However, it's still a cool look that doesn't require all that much skill!

Have you ever tried an alternative Galaxy mani?

I used: Rimmel Ultraviolet, Rimmel Sky High, Hema 01 pink (no name), Hema white (no name), Max Factor Fantasy Fire, Essence Elves Like Lilac, Sally Hansen Disco Ball

Nail Art with Essence Kit

Pretties,

Beginning of the year Essence came out with the Vintage Disctrict LE. They have a new LE every month but not every LE is released everywhere =(
We were lucky to get the VD LE here. When I saw the promo on Facebook I knew there was one thing I couldn't afford to miss:
Photo: chicprofile.com
 (Picture found here)

Microbeads! Hexes! Glequins! I couldn't find the sets anywhere so my sister was sweet enough to get me both =) You may have spotted the beads in this mani. Am I using too much minty green these days?

Anyway. For this mani I used the gold foil that was in the set. It was horrible to work with. It just fell apart when I as much as looked at it. Sad face.

It doesn't look half bad in the pictures though =) Perfect for spring!

I used: Essence Vintage District Nail Art Decoration Kit, Rimmel Bright Back At You, Hema 01 pink (no name), Rimmel, Ultraviolet, Rimmel Sky High, Kiss stud, OPI top coat

Studs

Just a quick post today. The pic is no good either, had to take it at the office. Hope it can inspire you anyway =)
Black & white stamping over a minty green polish, with a studded accent nail. The beads/studs came in a nail art decoration set from the Essence Vintage District LE.
The stamp design is from a new plate. Well, I'm not sure if it's actually newly released- I had just never seen this particular plate in stores before. I can't find any details on plates on the Essence website, unfortunately.

I used: Bell Air Flow 712, Essence Black & White Stampy polish, Essence Stamping kit Plate, Essence beads/studs.

St Patrick's Day Nail Art Challenge (all prompts)

Whoop whoop! My sister has decided to venture into the exciting world of nail art challenges =D This is so exciting =) She loves everything Irish so she is doing the St Patrick's Day challenge hosted by Dipped in Lacquer. I'm posting them all in one post throughout the day, hope you don't mind Roxy!

As always- click to enlarge.

Day One: Green

Day Two: Pot o' Gold:

Day Three: Leprechauns
And how cute are these?! I'm so proud and slightly envious. They are Sage and Onion, whom we both adored when we were younger. Check out a bit of nostalgia at the bottom of this post =)

Day Four was Shamrock:

Day Five: Free for All
I promise you these were fantastic. She was on the road all day so she barely had time to take pics =( It's a glass of Guinness complete with logo =D

Sage and Onion nostalgia <3

Summer Fruits

Pretties!

I don't know about you, but I am loving the fact that the sun is up by the time my alarm goes off, and sometimes is still up when I get home. Not seeing any daylight except through the office windows is so depressing!

So to celebrate the days getting longer, here's a summery, fruity mani.

Claires nail art fruit fimo
Fruity nail art
I threw out Essie Blanc as no amount of polish thinner was rescueing it. This is my first mani with a Hema white polish.
The fruit is from a Claires set. They come in a wheel. Honestly, Claires has so much nail stuff these days!

Claires.com

Claires.com
I used nail glue to attach the fruit to my nails. It worked like a charm. However, the apple snapped in half after about two hours =(

All in all, it was a bright mani that cheerep me up every time I looked at it. So I will most certainly be using these fruit slices again.

I used: Hema white, Claire's fimo fruit, Essence nail glue

Mum's Accent Leopard

First up let me apologize for the quality of the picture. I have been having some trouble with my camera. I hope this will be fixed soon =(

My mum and younger sister visited us a while back =) It was lovely to finally be able to show them were we live. It's a 2,5 hour train journey each way, so unfortunately we don't see each other as often as we would like.
Usually I go to see them and do their nails using their polishes, or maybe I will bring a couple. This time, they had a choice of all my 125 polishes which was a bit overwhelming ;-)

Leopard nail manicure
Mum's new mani
My mum picked Essence Grey-t to be here as a base. It'ss a creamy grey with a pink shimmer. As you can see, the shimmer is real delicate but it did show in real life.

Even before my mum chose a colour I wanted to do a leopard. By doing it as an accent nail, she accepted it without protest =D I hope she kept it for a few days =)

What do you think? Lovely and understated or bland and boring?

I used: Essence Grey-t to be here, Rimmel Grey Matter, Essie Licorice

Valentine NAC Day 9: Ombre or Gradient

Just a quick post for Day 9: Gradient I did a gradient of two purples, finished with a coat of Fantasy Fire and a little heart.

I might add more text and pics to this post later- right now I just want to clean my nails and do the last prompt :-)

Valentine NAC Day 7: Tape Mani

Pretties! It's Day 7, Tape Mani.

Tape mani's are not something I do very often. Hardly ever, in fact. But that's why I love these challenges; they make you do things you normally wouldn't! Like tapi mani's or *gasp* Splatter Mani's, which is Day 8...

I spent the weekend at my mum's. She was kind enough to let me do her nails =D So, here is my Tape Mani for Day 7 of the Valentine Nail Art Challenge:

I really regretted using the nail art glitter (a birthday present from GA Suze) because it meant the lines weren't all that crisp. But the overall look was pretty =) I was very happy with the heart, it really did look better taped than freehand lol.

I used: Essence Go Bold!, Essence Better Than Gel top coat, Etos nail art glitter

As always, don't forget to check out the other participants:

Valentine NAC Day 2: Hearts

Day two of the Valentine Challenge! And the theme for day two is: hearts. Yay! You can't go wrong with hearts =D

I actually did this mani over the weekend but didn't manage to post so I'll be posting day two and three today =)

Check out my subtle but glam twist on the classic French mani.

The purple is L'Oreal Colour Riche Purple Disturbia. I am really impressed by the Colour Riche polishes. I've only had two 'misses', the others are gorgeous <3 They are fairly pricey (6,10) for the small size (5ml), but we often get promotions like 1+1 free. Last week it was 3 for 10,- =D

I used: Essence A Piece of Forever, L'Oréal Colour Riche Purple Distubia

Fancy Studs AT LAST!

Pretties!

How do you feel about 3D nail art, stickers and studs? I love the possibilities and have been looking for studs for absolute ages. Finally I have found a set, in a funky, old-fashioned drug store in our part of town. I am so happy!

I tried them out as soon as we got home. Because they were more pricey that I had hoped, I was really hoping the quality would not be a let-down.
I love to combine bold and neutral, so I went for a greige and gold studs.

Kiss studs stickers nail
Miss Fancy Pants +studs

Close up

Sorry for posting two such similar pictures.

These are the studs. As you can see, they are from the brand Kiss. I have good and bad products from Kiss, this seems to be a winner =)
They are stickers. The edges on the square stood out a bit but I fixed that with top coat.

For this mani I used three coats of Essie Miss Fancy Pants, the studs and two thick coats of Essence Better Than Gel top coat.

And now it's time for a confession: one of my previously posted nail arts was one from the archives. I kept my nails like this for no less than four days! I lost no studs and the polish only chipped on my right thumb <3

Can't wait to use these babies again, get the set if you see it somewhere!

I used: Essie Miss Fancy Pants, Kiss Nail Artist metallics (stickers), Essence Better Than Gel top coat

Essence Breaking Dawn Pt 2 LE

Yes, I know I am so behind with this. However, I have had these polishes for some time now and just wanted to show you what they are like. It's quite cool because I also have a LE polish from when the the first movie came out, when the LE was still called A Vampire's Love rather than Twilight!

There are four polishes in this LE. A blue glitter named Jacob’s Protection, a purple glitter named Alice had a Vision – Again, a golden polish named A Piece of Forever and finally a dark grey/hard coal glitter named Edward’s love.

The cat is inspecting the polishes
I took this pic and as you can see, it didn't work out. But I just couldn't not show you just how interested Ezio is in my polishes ;-) He loves playing with my polishes and dotting tools, the little rascal.

The colours are best visible from the bottom of the bottles.

My absolute favourite is Alice Had a Vision - Again. It's a gorgeous purple packed with glitters and shimmers. It's the only polish I have photographed of the LE so far, so I think I might just skip on swatching the others ;-)

Stolen Snowman Mani

It's been snowing like crazy these past two weeks, so finally it felt like it was time for the Snowman mani I stole from the lovely Kristine over at Pink & Polished. Her mani was the December 9th prompt for the 12 Days of Christmas challenge. I loved it so much that I have been wanting to do this ever since =) She encouraged me to do it, so, here it is, at last =D

My take on the design
The original design by Kristine

As you can see, my version is the lazy girl's take on the design ;-)

And here is a bonus picture of Ezio being all suspicious about the first snowfall of the year:

I used: L'Oréal Colour Riche 622 Sky Fits Heaven, Essie Blanc, Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Disco Ball, Essence Get The Fever, black sharpie, star sticker

Floral One-Stroke

Hello pretties,

Florals. I never do them. I think I did flowers only once before. So this mani was long overdue =)

For Christmas my sister GA Suze got me Essie Head Mistress and Miss Fancy Pants. I wore Head Mistress for a day and I love it. You can never have enough reds <3 But, after a day, plain nails bore me so I needed to spice them up.

I don't know why, but I decided to add flowers. When I gathered my colours, I thought 'hey, why not try this one-stroke technique I read about a while back?'. Yeah. Big fail. But- I didn't feel the mani itself was a fail, so it's not a Nail Fail Friday.

floral abstract nail art
Floral one-stroke

Actually, this picture is true to life- my fingers are still quite tanned from the Egyptian sun.

1. So, I did this art on a 24hrs-old base (two coats) of Head Mistress.
2. Then I placed a drop of white polish on a sheet of plastic.
3. Right next to that, I placed a drop of dark blue polish.
4. I dragged my nail art brush through the middle, so either side would pick up one colour.
5. Then I gently made half circles on my nails, forming flowers. I quickly realised I was doing it wrong/it wasn't working out, but I liked the watercolour-like effect so I decided to continue.
6. I then added Miss Sporty Check Matte.
7. On top of that, I added yellow flower hearts and green leaves/stems. Which means those were shiny when the rest is matte =)
Like I said, I like how it turned out even though it wasn't what I was going for.

Since I had been experiencing some chipping before my vacation, I got Sally Hansen Hard as Nails this weekend. I'm very curious to see if it will improve my nails, as chipping is basically the only problem I have with them. Lucky me =)
I only have some major drama going on around my thumbnail right now, which is slowly healing with the help of creams, oils and overnight band aids.

I used: Essie Head Mistress, Rimmel Blue Vogue, Essence Stampy Polish White, Miss Sporty Check Matte, Cybele (green), Etos (yellow)

More new polishes +glitter gradient

Honestly? My sister rocks =) Of course we don't see eye to eye all the time but hey, she gives me the polishes she no longer fancies. Ha! This weekend the score was two purples and two glitters. YES!
I used the glitters for this:
Seriously, this is so amazing, I can't stop staring at it. It frustrates me to no end that it doesn't photograph at all.
It's two coats of L'Oréal Sky Fits Heaven, two coats of Max Faxtor Fantasy Fire and a gradient of the two Etos glitter polishes. There is just so much going on on this nail <3

Top: Oh my Glitter! Bottom: Elves Like Lilac
The purples were both Essence polishes. One was from the Fantasia LE, don't you just love when someone gives you retired polishes? On top of that, it is named Elves Like Lilac, I love funky names like that.
As you can see, even though they are both lavender-y, Oh my Glitter! has a pink shimmer whereas Elves Like Lilac has a blue shimmer. Will try to do a comparison post soon.

Also, it has come to the point where I had to buy a new Ribba (seen in My Stash). I now have four 55cm Ribba's plus one spare. This means I have to organize my polishes all over again. Oh, listen to me, pretending this will be such a tedious task! I will probably love every second of it.
I made myself promise I would count them (and quickly chucked a gooey top coat, you never know, it could have been the straw that broke the camel's back), so, yikes.
Look for new stash pictures somewhere next week =)

Merry Manicure

Woop woop! Time for a Christmas manicure =)

Since I cannot keep measure and buy just one item online, I have not been able to buy flocking powder yet. It always seems such a waste to buy one item and then pay shipping so I end up buying things I really don't need and not being able to buy my train tickets at the end of the month, grr.
So, when my Geek and I were at a garden centre a while ago, they had all this stuff to build your own model railway landscape. I found several interesting items (I'm always on the lookout for alternatives to things that are labelled 'nail art' as it seems things double in price once they are labelled that) including powders to be used for snow and grass. I used the snowflakes for the Snow White mani, here is the grass!

I tried adding some decorations to the tree to complete the look but... Meh. I ruined it.

Fun fact: I used two different polishes for stamping: a local drugstore brand and OPI Just Spotted The Lizard. No difference here, will have to do comparison soon =)
The drugstore brand was actually a gift from GA Suze because it underwhelmed her so I can't wait to try it for real.

I used: Essence Do You Speak Love?, OPI Just Spotted The Lizard, Etos, green 'grass' powder for model trains.
