Clean up

No mani, just pictures of my stashhh! We went to Ikea (<3) last weekend and bought three Ribba's.
My Geek thought that was 2 plus 1 spare and that I was joking when I said I probably needed four now, five by the end of the year. Bahaha!

Anyway, he got to putting them up straight away and I got to filling them (sorted by colour and one for 'other' ie topcoat, base coat, crackles, glitters). And get this: they are in the living room! Ha! I'm so happy <3
I don't like the much-favoured Helmers for the simple reason that I want to see my polish. I love to just look at them and pick a colour (or two, or three...). You might say 'just wait till you have enough polishes to fill a Helmer' but you'd be surprised at how many polishes these three Ribba's hold right now! Last count was 200, but I haven't counted in weeks. This is a tactical decision, ignorance is bliss ;-)

Work in progress

These two... cupboards? Racks? Were originally upright next to each other with some space in between. My polishes were on top of the right in one big heap and I am juuuust too short to see the polishes at the back.
So we turned one of them on its side and voilà, plenty of room for polish!

I was going to take this as an opportunity to throw out some polishes that I knew had gone gooey. I ended up throwing out only Rimmel Coralicious and Essence Cool and the Gang. Man, I loved them both but they were three years old by now and had gone gloopy. *sad face* I was especially hesitant to chuck Cool and the Gang as Essence have since changed their entire series. Oh well. I wanted to go out and replace Coralicious, but then I remembered I'm on a no-buy =(

Adding a filter, look at how artistic I am

You can just see my mini editions at the bottom here (OPI Spiderman, OPI Outrageous Neons, Urban Decay Summer of Love, a crackle set).

Yeah, another filter, just because! ;-)
So far I'm loving it, and even my Geek has said it's an improvement to the room =) So, it's a keeper!

For April

Five year old April Jones from Wales has been missing for more than a week now. As I was horrified to hear, a family friend has since been charged with her murder.

This just breaks my heart. I can't believe there is such evil in this world, even though we are confronted with it day after day.

Her parents have asked everyone to wear pink ribbons as it was/is het favourite colour. They also released pink balloons and lanterns on the night she had been missing for a week, as a symbol of hope.

This is my mani for April. May you be found soon, little girl.

* scheduled post due to holiday in la douce France*

No mani today. Instead, let's talk about inspiration.

What inspires you?
Anything can be an inspiration for me. And I honestly mean ANYTHING. From a song I hear on the radio to a piece of fruit my colleague is having for lunch. Sometimes I get an idea and check to see if and how others have turned it in to nail art. If this happens I usually end up browsing nail art sites for ages! Stupid mobile phones make it so easy... So who is my inspiration? Check out these guys (gals), they have some awesome techniques, tutorials or ideas.

Have fun surfing =)

Warning: some of these websites will make you feel horribly inadequate! Big sigh.

Guest Post: Lovely Lilac

GA Suze: I love purple, it's that simple!

Luckily purple comes in many shades and mixes! Inspired by a lovely bush in the garden, I bought Essence Colour³ of "midnight date" with "city that never sleeps". Colour³ is a combination of two polishes, that can be used either seperately or combined (this being the third option, and explains the ³ in the name).

I first tried two layers of midnight date and two layers of city that never sleeps. I was rather disappointed with the lack of shimmering in the dark blue and the lack of green sparkles in the purple top layers.
Sorry, no cuticle clean-up =(

Noooo, don 't crush the flower!
So off it went!

I pulled out my Etos Silver special effects nail polish, two layers as a base coat for the shimmer as the city that never sleeps is a transparent purple colour. Straight away I noticed I would need two layers to get a deeper purple. And although the green sparkles are still hardly visible, I love the glimmer effect and the shining purple! Look at how perfectly purple it turned out! Exactly like my lovely purple flowered bush! In real-life there is no VNL, that's -luckily- just an illusion in the picture :-)

I used: Etos Silver special effects, Essence Colour³ City that never sleeps

Comments by Fabby: I personally quite like the first mani. And looking at the bottle, there seem to be plenty of green glitters... I will have to steal this polish and see if I can get other results!

I'm Not Scared

Newspaper nails have been all over the internet. But WHY would I want to wear such a depressing thing as a newspaper on my nails?!

Still, I thought it looked quite awesome (plus: any manicure with RUM is a win!) so wanted to try something like it.

My Geek writes songs with a friend of ours. I asked him what his favourite was, so he sent me the lyrics. I printed them (Xerox printer, 60grams paper), got out the rum et voilà!

The Iced Latte is a pinkish nude which is slightly darker than it seems in the photgraph.

If you have no clue how to do newspaper nails, check out this or this tutorial.

I used: Essence Iced Latte, Cuban rum, regular paper from a regular printer

Cracking Champagne

Different cracking patterns, one polish
Okay, so I was going to do a blog of my festival nails but I don't have the picture right now. Grrr. Also, I didn't find any neon colours and I got run over by a tourist cyclist in the shopping street so the project 'festival nails' sort of has a bitter taste to it now :-(
Will post the mani Thursday though as it was pretty nonetheless:-).

This is a combination of an Essence Cracking basecoat and topcoat. The base is called 'Champagner'  which is actually the German word for champagne so no, it''s not a type =)

Cracking always looks cool so this is nothing special, but I think this picture shows the difference the way of applying makes in the cracking pattern. The difference between the thumb and ring finger is striking!

I used: Essence Cracking Champagner basecoat, Essence Crack me! black

Welcome to my blog! How awesome that somehow, you have found your way here :-) I hope you will find some inspiration here, as I have found on so many of those amazing blogs, tumblrs and websites.

For now, I will update twice a week.
I can't be bothered cropping my pictures (yet?), I hope you can forgive me for the glimpses of my private life you will be able to see in the pictures ;-)

I will also have a guest contributor: my amazingly talented sister.
