Halloween Nail Art Challenge: Scary Movies

Helloooo and welcome to prompt one of the Halloween Nail Art Challenge! I know I'm a bit late but I promise Day 2 will be right on time (as in, tomorrow).

Day 1 meant Scary Movies. Yeah. I hate scary movies. They scare me! After asking around a bit and not being happy with any of the suggestions (most people suggested the mask from Scream or intricate designs that I knew I would never be able to do), I knew I needed to think outside the box. So, I went with an Ouija board design! Because, let's face it-  each movie that features an Ouija board teaches us it's Not A Good Idea.

For those of you unfamiliar with Ouija boards, here is an example:
Source: Wikipedia
Fun fact: when researching designs for Ouija boards, I learned that the heart-shaped thingy that moves over the board is called a Planchette. Who knew? Not me.

From Wikipedia:
The Ouija board (WEE-jə) also known as a spirit board or talking board, is a flat board marked with the letters of the alphabet, the numbers 0-9, the words "yes", "no", "hello" (occasionally), and "goodbye", along with various symbols and graphics. (....)
It uses a planchette (small heart-shaped piece of wood) or movable indicator to indicate the spirit's message by spelling it out on the board during a séance. Participants place their fingers on the planchette, and it is moved about the board to spell out words. (...)
Mainstream religions and some occultists have associated use of a Ouija board with the concept of demonic possession, and view the use of the board as a spiritual threat and have cautioned their followers not to use a Ouija board.
Despite being criticized by the scientific community and deemed superstitious by traditional Christians, Ouija remains popular among many people.
So. Here is my mani:
Believe me, I will be thrilled when my nail art brushes arrive, hopefully next week. If you look at my pinky finger, you'll know what I mean.
I was expecting the planchette to pop out more as I matted everything else. Unfortunately, no such luck.

I used: The New Black Gold Grenade, OPI German-icure by OPI, Essie Licorice, Miss Sporty matte top coat

I loved this first prompt of the challenge! So exciting do do another challenge and can't wait to see what everyone else has come up with.

World Animal Day

Hi pretties! Did everyone have a good weekend? We went to a gaming exhibition kind of thing (mani to follow), had dinner with friends in a town between where they live and where we live, then ended the night with a pub quiz.

Last Friday was World Animal Day. I hope you were all extra nice to animals around you, maybe you even visited a shelter and/or donated some food or toys? Were you all rocking some cool animal-themed manis?

Here is my World Animal Day mani:
Yeah, the zebra kinda looked weird so I kept going back with my striper only to make it worse. I really liked the frog and tiger print though!

And here's a bonus picture of Ezio. Hey, if you're sick of him yet, just let me know.
He is very interested in our robot vacuum cleaner (Sammie). Here he is waiting until it's time to get vacuuming again. Honestly, this robot is a win-win. The house gets cleaner while I'm doing my nails (bye bye, guilty conscience) and the cat is entertained. I can only recommend it!

I used: Rimmel Aqua Cool, black striper, L'Oréal Colour Riche Banana Pop, Hema orange polish (no name), Rimmel Rain Rain Go Away. l'Oréal Color Riche 404 Scarlet Vamp, l'Oréal Color Riche 401 Rouge Pin up, Essie Licorice, nailgirls white polish, Miss Sporty Matte topcoat

Literary French

Oops. I wrote on Facebook that I was posting this mani yesterday, but never got around to taking the pictures. Even now, I only have one shitty one =(

I got the OPI Spookettes set some days ago and I knew I needed to do a mani RIGHT AWAY. I chose to use Mummy Knows Best and I Only Date Werewolves (IODW). I had the idea in my mind (spent the entire day at work designing it in my mind haha), added a strip of striping tape on each nail and applied IODW.
Yikes! It was so... smokey! I really expected it to be opaque in one coat like Essie Licorice, but I had to do two coats. Which of course meant trouble for the striping part- there's no way you can get it a crisp line if you don't remove the tape immediately after applying the polish.

I added white tips, used the paper and transfer solution from my The New Black - Weekly Journal set. Then another strip of striping tape where the black and white polish met on each nail, and finally a top coat.

I really love the Weekly Journal set. Sure, newspaper nails can be done cheaper, but I love the fact that the texts are all happy words and they are printed mirrored, so on your nails, they are actually correct!

Beautezine.com
This mani was actually a bit harder than I expected. The problem with only having the print on the tips, is that the piece of paper is too small to get a good grip. So it moved around a bit =( I was still quite happy with the look though! It looked like a Rock&Roll version of the French mani =)

Well, that's it for now! Check back tomorrow for some World Animal Day nail art!

NOTD: Geometric Black & White

My lovely readers,

As you can see, I'm still not quite up to posting regularly. I am doing my nails more often now though, so I thought I'd just post those for inspiration and not talk too much. Keep it simple! =) So you will be seeing more posts, yay!

I just *had* to add this picture because STORKS! BLACK AND WHITE!

Supersoaker nails

WHOOP WHOOP! Kings of Leon have released a new single. So obviously I *had* to celebrate with a mani =) I did this real quickly, as in, within one minute. I don't even remember why I was in such a hurry, hmm.

This is the cover for the single (do singles even have covers? Or should I say 'this is the illustration your MP3 player will display'?):

Go buy it nooooow! =)

I did this mani, well, accent nail:

Supersoaker nails manicure
Summer with KoL!

Again, I did this very quickly and I also took the picture without checking it on the computer, so it's not as clear as I would like. Now I'm thinking I should have done a gradient as well, orange-yellow-mint, like the word supersoaker in the pic.
Anyway, I like that nobody know what it means and I can still get my fangirl out ;-)

When was the last time you did 'fan'-nails? Am I too old, at 30? =(

I used: Hema mint polish with shimmer, L'Oréal Colour Riche Banana Pop, Nails Inc Cambridge Terrace

GA Rox: Velvet Diamonds Nail Art

So sorry you guys, I know I haven't been posting or doing great nail art. Apart from my KoL mani =)
You can read the reason after the break at the bottom of this post.

Thankfully my sister Rox did a mani using some of my polishes =D

The blue is a Misslyn Velvet Diamonds polish which I haven't tried yet, can't wait to see the effect and how it compares to other brands.

Misslyn is a new brand for me. Just the Velvet Diamonds collection boasts eight colours. I also picked up some stud stickers and nail art stickers which I will hopefully use and review soon.

Designing and concepts

Pretties, I was wondering. Do you any of you ever do any sketching before you do your nail art? I have been looking for an app where I can quickly doodle a design as soon as inspiration hits me. Which is often on the train, where a sketch book or something is not really an option.
I have this silly app now. It makes you clip and buff your nails and dry them under a uv light after applying polish, sigh, and doesn't have any studs but it does help me 'save' my inspiration for a later time. I have added an example to this post (a mani you will hopefully see on this blog sometime next week!).
Are you a sketcher? Any suggestion for apps?

Kings of Leon Nail Art

Hi there!

Maybe you knew from my profile pic, but I am a HUGE Kings of Leon fan. I urge every one of you to go and check out songs OTHER than Use Somebody, Sex on Fire and Notion. I call those the Hellish Trinity because those are the songs everyone knows and every cover band plays. Don't get me wrong, they are great songs but Kings of Leon have so many amazing songs. Wilder, more bad-ass, laden with raw emotion, stuff like that.
And the amazing ballad Arizona which is actually about a beautiful prostitute in a whorehouse in Arizona. I wrote that bit in white as to not offend anyone. Select it with your cursor if you are curious!

I was lucky enough to see them live two years ago, and last weekend I got to see them again <3 They are doing a European tour this summer and played a festival nearby. So of course I had to do Kings of Leon nails! I came up with the idea of using the US cover for Only By The Night quite quickly. However, after some practising I realised I was never going to do this on ten nails. So My Geek helped me with some design suggestions. This is what I ended up with =)

Kings of Leon nail art easy

For your reference, this is the US album cover:

It's two birds of prey locked in battle. Yeah. Good luck with that. It takes a more talented nail art enthousiast to pull that off.
So I just used polish thinner to get a water colour effect, which unfortunately doesn't really come across on the photograph. Several people noticed and complimented me, though =) The golden circle thingies were like tiny discoballs on my nails <3 The sun really played with them.

Here are two pictures of the evening:

Click to enlarge. I'd like to think Jared (<3) made eye contact here ;-)
Have you ever done your nails as an ode to your favorite band/artist? I'd love to see them!

Pastel gradient with cat accent nail

Pretties. It's time for some CAT NAIL ART!

The other day I was searching Pinterest for some inspiration. I came across this pin and thought it was the cutest! But, I had to change it slightly to make it more me.

Cute or what?
It led to a weird conversation with my boss though. It went like this.

'Your nails look very subtle today.'
'Pretty, eh?'
'I didn't say that. Actually, it kind of looks like you are not wearing any polish at all and...'
'.... the green is mould?'
'Yeah...'

Hrmpf.

So, just not to end this post on a grumpy note, here is a picture of Ezio, who has picked up some fascinating new interests recently. Aka since being 'snipped'. Enjoy!

I used: Golden Rose 83, L'Oréal Colour Riche Perle de Jade, Essie Licorice, Hema white polish (no name).

NOTD: Teal Loves Aluminum

Pretties,

a while back I swapped a Nails Inc polish. Then, a week or so after, Sephora had their big closing sale where one of the polishes I picked up was OPI Ski Teal We Drop. Man, is that the hardest polish name or what?! Anyway. I have finally gotten around to combining them in a quick and easy manicure =)

Please note the teal reflecting on my ring finger! Cambridge Terrace is insane, shiny like a mirror <3

Primark 3D mani

Hello again!

The other week I finally had the opportunity to visit Primark again with my sister and mother. It had been months! My sister told me about the '3D' nail product they carry, so I knew I had to buy at least a set of that =)

I picked this set:

linloves.nl

The polish in the set was a nightmare. As in- I still had VNL after five coats. Ugh. I don't have the time nor the motivation to do five coats! I was glad I tried it on one nail the night before I was going to do the full mani.

I wasn't going to do a full nail with the beads either. I was too worried they would fall off and leave me with a messy mani at work. So, I did a French mani with a bit of spice =)

How festive does this look?! They really remind me of sprinkles.

As you can see, my middle finger has a bird sticker on it. It didn't come off when I cleaned my nails so I figured I'd leave it there and see how long it would last =)

What do you think? Subtle or no way near enough beads?=)

Aluminum Mix

Hello again my lovely followers,

Recently I became a member of a beauty swap group on Facebook. I think it's a fantastic initiative!

My first swap was with a girl that wanted a Mavala polish and a drugstore brand polish my sister had given me because she had three of them. So, pretty painless for me really! She sent me her swap list and I spotted Nails Inc Cambridge Terrace. Cambridge Terrace! The swap was completed and I was thrilled to receive this beauty of a polish <3

After just staring at it for two days (two days! And no chipping at all!) I had to do some nail art with it. So, here it is:

Base is two coats of Cambridge Terrace.
- Thumb is some free-hand heart-thingy
- Index is one coat of NYC Rock Muse
- Middle finger is a Bourjois sticker from the Pshiit set
- Ring finger is drug store brand crackle
- Pinky is stamping using an Essence plate and Essence Stampy Polish

You can really see how gorgeous Cambridge Terrace is on the middle finger <3 My Geek said it was aluminum!

Would you ever swap cosmetics online?

Lavender Galaxies

Lovelies,
Even though the look is probably 'passed', I still love Galaxy nails. Love, love, love them. But even I am done with dark nails now, and really up for some bright colours! So, why not make Galaxy nails, but using other colours?

I initially considered doing neon galaxies, but quickly realised it was failure waiting to happen. So I continued with lavender. I started with a white base but soon realised I needed a dark base colours for depth so switched the intended order in which to apply the polishes.

In the end I think the look is more 'water colour' than 'galaxy'. However, it's still a cool look that doesn't require all that much skill!

Have you ever tried an alternative Galaxy mani?

I used: Rimmel Ultraviolet, Rimmel Sky High, Hema 01 pink (no name), Hema white (no name), Max Factor Fantasy Fire, Essence Elves Like Lilac, Sally Hansen Disco Ball

Nail Art with Essence Kit

Pretties,

Beginning of the year Essence came out with the Vintage Disctrict LE. They have a new LE every month but not every LE is released everywhere =(
We were lucky to get the VD LE here. When I saw the promo on Facebook I knew there was one thing I couldn't afford to miss:
Photo: chicprofile.com
 (Picture found here)

Microbeads! Hexes! Glequins! I couldn't find the sets anywhere so my sister was sweet enough to get me both =) You may have spotted the beads in this mani. Am I using too much minty green these days?

Anyway. For this mani I used the gold foil that was in the set. It was horrible to work with. It just fell apart when I as much as looked at it. Sad face.

It doesn't look half bad in the pictures though =) Perfect for spring!

I used: Essence Vintage District Nail Art Decoration Kit, Rimmel Bright Back At You, Hema 01 pink (no name), Rimmel, Ultraviolet, Rimmel Sky High, Kiss stud, OPI top coat

Studs

Just a quick post today. The pic is no good either, had to take it at the office. Hope it can inspire you anyway =)
Black & white stamping over a minty green polish, with a studded accent nail. The beads/studs came in a nail art decoration set from the Essence Vintage District LE.
The stamp design is from a new plate. Well, I'm not sure if it's actually newly released- I had just never seen this particular plate in stores before. I can't find any details on plates on the Essence website, unfortunately.

I used: Bell Air Flow 712, Essence Black & White Stampy polish, Essence Stamping kit Plate, Essence beads/studs.

Whoop whoop! My sister has decided to venture into the exciting world of nail art challenges =D This is so exciting =) She loves everything Irish so she is doing the St Patrick's Day challenge hosted by Dipped in Lacquer. I'm posting them all in one post throughout the day, hope you don't mind Roxy!

As always- click to enlarge.

Day One: Green

I promise you these were fantastic. She was on the road all day so she barely had time to take pics =( It's a glass of Guinness complete with logo =D

Summer Fruits

Pretties!

I don't know about you, but I am loving the fact that the sun is up by the time my alarm goes off, and sometimes is still up when I get home. Not seeing any daylight except through the office windows is so depressing!

So to celebrate the days getting longer, here's a summery, fruity mani.

Claires nail art fruit fimo
Fruity nail art
I threw out Essie Blanc as no amount of polish thinner was rescueing it. This is my first mani with a Hema white polish.
The fruit is from a Claires set. They come in a wheel. Honestly, Claires has so much nail stuff these days!

Claires.com

Claires.com
I used nail glue to attach the fruit to my nails. It worked like a charm. However, the apple snapped in half after about two hours =(

All in all, it was a bright mani that cheerep me up every time I looked at it. So I will most certainly be using these fruit slices again.

I used: Hema white, Claire's fimo fruit, Essence nail glue

Mermaid Accent Nail

Hello pretty people! Are you basking in the spring sun or is anyone sharing my still-wintery mysery?

The other day my Geek and I were in a drugstore and they had Bourjois polishes 50% off. Whoop whoop! They also had the Pshiiit nail art kit (more about that later!) so I knew I had to get that, even though there was no price tag. These kits have been sold out at every Bourjois display I see!
On top of that, we both pulled the same lush blue 50% off polish so I took that as a sign and all but ran for the register.
At home I realised the polish was called Bleu Fabuleux so it's like it was meant to be =D

I had been wearing OPI Got Your Number so I decided to use that as an accent nail. It's a Liquid Sand polish. I didn't like the look too much... So I added one coat of  Rimmel Cutie Colada. The 3D look that suddenly appeared is almost like scales!

The picture is actually quite bad. Bleu Fabuleux is a fantastic colour, my Geek said it looks almost luminescent. It's perfect <3 It really needs a top coat though- as with most Bourjois polishes, it chipped within a day. But by then I was ready for some new nail art (and those Pshiiit thingies!) so it was all good. Be sure to check back for that later =)

Silver lining

Pretties,

it's time for some glequin nail art! Of course, this is yet another look perfected by the Nailasaurus.
I'm not even nearly as neat and patient as Sam though!

Spring skies, silver linings...
If you look closely, you will see that the two nails without top coat (pinkie and index) are not quite as dark as the other fingers. Interesting!

I love the holo diamond shaped qlequins but I realized as I was applying them that they were all different sizes =( There was no way I could make a neat grid. So thank you, Essence, for making this mani even harder for me. Grmbl.

The hexes were all perfect. Next time, I will try covering the entire nail with hexes, not visible nail polish. Oh yeah!

Bought myself a fierce handbag... Made nail art to match =)
