Super Easy Nail Art: Brick Lane Gradient

Happy Monday pretties! Hope you all had a fantastic weekend.

Another super easy mani for you today. Super easy but quite fetching, I think!
I have written about Nails Inc Brick Lane before. I love how easy it is to change your entire mani with just a splash of it. For this look I first did a gradient of grey and blue, then added one coat of Brick Lane. I love this look! I think it's good all year round.

World Animal Day

Hi pretties! Did everyone have a good weekend? We went to a gaming exhibition kind of thing (mani to follow), had dinner with friends in a town between where they live and where we live, then ended the night with a pub quiz.

Last Friday was World Animal Day. I hope you were all extra nice to animals around you, maybe you even visited a shelter and/or donated some food or toys? Were you all rocking some cool animal-themed manis?

Here is my World Animal Day mani:
Yeah, the zebra kinda looked weird so I kept going back with my striper only to make it worse. I really liked the frog and tiger print though!

And here's a bonus picture of Ezio. Hey, if you're sick of him yet, just let me know.
He is very interested in our robot vacuum cleaner (Sammie). Here he is waiting until it's time to get vacuuming again. Honestly, this robot is a win-win. The house gets cleaner while I'm doing my nails (bye bye, guilty conscience) and the cat is entertained. I can only recommend it!

I used: Rimmel Aqua Cool, black striper, L'Oréal Colour Riche Banana Pop, Hema orange polish (no name), Rimmel Rain Rain Go Away. l'Oréal Color Riche 404 Scarlet Vamp, l'Oréal Color Riche 401 Rouge Pin up, Essie Licorice, nailgirls white polish, Miss Sporty Matte topcoat

GA Rox: Velvet Diamonds Nail Art

So sorry you guys, I know I haven't been posting or doing great nail art. Apart from my KoL mani =)
You can read the reason after the break at the bottom of this post.

Thankfully my sister Rox did a mani using some of my polishes =D

The blue is a Misslyn Velvet Diamonds polish which I haven't tried yet, can't wait to see the effect and how it compares to other brands.

Misslyn is a new brand for me. Just the Velvet Diamonds collection boasts eight colours. I also picked up some stud stickers and nail art stickers which I will hopefully use and review soon.

Lavender Galaxies

Lovelies,
Even though the look is probably 'passed', I still love Galaxy nails. Love, love, love them. But even I am done with dark nails now, and really up for some bright colours! So, why not make Galaxy nails, but using other colours?

I initially considered doing neon galaxies, but quickly realised it was failure waiting to happen. So I continued with lavender. I started with a white base but soon realised I needed a dark base colours for depth so switched the intended order in which to apply the polishes.

In the end I think the look is more 'water colour' than 'galaxy'. However, it's still a cool look that doesn't require all that much skill!

Have you ever tried an alternative Galaxy mani?

I used: Rimmel Ultraviolet, Rimmel Sky High, Hema 01 pink (no name), Hema white (no name), Max Factor Fantasy Fire, Essence Elves Like Lilac, Sally Hansen Disco Ball

Nail Art with Essence Kit

Pretties,

Beginning of the year Essence came out with the Vintage Disctrict LE. They have a new LE every month but not every LE is released everywhere =(
We were lucky to get the VD LE here. When I saw the promo on Facebook I knew there was one thing I couldn't afford to miss:
Photo: chicprofile.com
 (Picture found here)

Microbeads! Hexes! Glequins! I couldn't find the sets anywhere so my sister was sweet enough to get me both =) You may have spotted the beads in this mani. Am I using too much minty green these days?

Anyway. For this mani I used the gold foil that was in the set. It was horrible to work with. It just fell apart when I as much as looked at it. Sad face.

It doesn't look half bad in the pictures though =) Perfect for spring!

I used: Essence Vintage District Nail Art Decoration Kit, Rimmel Bright Back At You, Hema 01 pink (no name), Rimmel, Ultraviolet, Rimmel Sky High, Kiss stud, OPI top coat

Mermaid Accent Nail

Hello pretty people! Are you basking in the spring sun or is anyone sharing my still-wintery mysery?

The other day my Geek and I were in a drugstore and they had Bourjois polishes 50% off. Whoop whoop! They also had the Pshiiit nail art kit (more about that later!) so I knew I had to get that, even though there was no price tag. These kits have been sold out at every Bourjois display I see!
On top of that, we both pulled the same lush blue 50% off polish so I took that as a sign and all but ran for the register.
At home I realised the polish was called Bleu Fabuleux so it's like it was meant to be =D

I had been wearing OPI Got Your Number so I decided to use that as an accent nail. It's a Liquid Sand polish. I didn't like the look too much... So I added one coat of  Rimmel Cutie Colada. The 3D look that suddenly appeared is almost like scales!

The picture is actually quite bad. Bleu Fabuleux is a fantastic colour, my Geek said it looks almost luminescent. It's perfect <3 It really needs a top coat though- as with most Bourjois polishes, it chipped within a day. But by then I was ready for some new nail art (and those Pshiiit thingies!) so it was all good. Be sure to check back for that later =)

Mum's Accent Leopard

First up let me apologize for the quality of the picture. I have been having some trouble with my camera. I hope this will be fixed soon =(

My mum and younger sister visited us a while back =) It was lovely to finally be able to show them were we live. It's a 2,5 hour train journey each way, so unfortunately we don't see each other as often as we would like.
Usually I go to see them and do their nails using their polishes, or maybe I will bring a couple. This time, they had a choice of all my 125 polishes which was a bit overwhelming ;-)

Leopard nail manicure
Mum's new mani
My mum picked Essence Grey-t to be here as a base. It'ss a creamy grey with a pink shimmer. As you can see, the shimmer is real delicate but it did show in real life.

Even before my mum chose a colour I wanted to do a leopard. By doing it as an accent nail, she accepted it without protest =D I hope she kept it for a few days =)

What do you think? Lovely and understated or bland and boring?

I used: Essence Grey-t to be here, Rimmel Grey Matter, Essie Licorice

If you are not sure how to switch off CAPTCHA or are unsure if you have it switched on or off, it is super super easy:

Go to the Setting tab on your blog overview page.

In the settings menu, click Posts and comments.

Under Comments, check the settings for 'Show word verification'. Change this to 'No'.

If you want, you can change who is allowed to comment here. This should eliminate spam. Also you can choose to moderate comments.

On to the mani. This was an all-round fail. I came home last night at 7 and had to do this mani, take pics, have dinner, bake and decorate 36 cupcakes (did I mention it's my birthday today?), do a birthday mani and be in bed by 10! So, yikes!

The theme was Lace or Fabric and I went for a bit of a naughty interpretation... The accent nail is the upper leg part of a lady wearing suspenders.

Kids, look away!

I used: Rimmel Bare Necessities (how apt!), NYC Rock Muse, Etos striper

As always, check out the other ladies doing this challenge:

Floral One-Stroke

Hello pretties,

Florals. I never do them. I think I did flowers only once before. So this mani was long overdue =)

For Christmas my sister GA Suze got me Essie Head Mistress and Miss Fancy Pants. I wore Head Mistress for a day and I love it. You can never have enough reds <3 But, after a day, plain nails bore me so I needed to spice them up.

I don't know why, but I decided to add flowers. When I gathered my colours, I thought 'hey, why not try this one-stroke technique I read about a while back?'. Yeah. Big fail. But- I didn't feel the mani itself was a fail, so it's not a Nail Fail Friday.

Floral one-stroke

Actually, this picture is true to life- my fingers are still quite tanned from the Egyptian sun.

1. So, I did this art on a 24hrs-old base (two coats) of Head Mistress.
2. Then I placed a drop of white polish on a sheet of plastic.
3. Right next to that, I placed a drop of dark blue polish.
4. I dragged my nail art brush through the middle, so either side would pick up one colour.
5. Then I gently made half circles on my nails, forming flowers. I quickly realised I was doing it wrong/it wasn't working out, but I liked the watercolour-like effect so I decided to continue.
6. I then added Miss Sporty Check Matte.
7. On top of that, I added yellow flower hearts and green leaves/stems. Which means those were shiny when the rest is matte =)
Like I said, I like how it turned out even though it wasn't what I was going for.

Since I had been experiencing some chipping before my vacation, I got Sally Hansen Hard as Nails this weekend. I'm very curious to see if it will improve my nails, as chipping is basically the only problem I have with them. Lucky me =)
I only have some major drama going on around my thumbnail right now, which is slowly healing with the help of creams, oils and overnight band aids.

I used: Essie Head Mistress, Rimmel Blue Vogue, Essence Stampy Polish White, Miss Sporty Check Matte, Cybele (green), Etos (yellow)

Bright Back At The Golden Gun

Hi pretties,

no nail art today but a NOTD.

This is OPI The Man With The Golden Gun over two coats of Rimmel Bright Back At You.
I love, love, love both polishes.

When I bought The Man With The Golden Gun, there was actually a big sign with instructions in the store. The instructions included holding the bottle upside down for a bit to get all the gold flakes to the top. This works really well for me; as you can see, I have no trouble fishing flakes out of the bottle =D

I have only used TMWTGG twice so far. Last time was over Tomorrow Never Dies, which is a dark shade. This time, I couldn't help but notice that TMWTGG is not clear, it left a yellowish shine over Bright Back At You. It wasn't terrible, but I was a bit disappointed as I love Bright Back At You so much.

Yikes, only five more sleeps till we leave for Egypt! I'm so excited! I just hope this whole constitution-thing will be calmer by then and the president will listen to his people =( Anyhow, I'm not a politician so that's all I'm going to say about this here =D

Sinterklaas/Santa Clause

Yay, you guys! It's almost Sinterklaas! I'm so excited that I did a cool Sinterklaas-mani.

Santa Clause nail art
Sinterklaas
Isn't he a cutie? And it was so much easier than I expected.

Response from the people around me has been so great that I might just use this design around Christmas, I'll just change the hat to make him more Santa =)

There was a 2,- discount on Rimmel polishes so I bought Ruby Crush from the Precious Stones collection. I had spotted it before, but I'm still trying to not buy each and every single polish I set my eyes on. But hey, when there's a discount, it would be a shame to miss out, right? ;-)

I like this polish. The bottle boasts 'High coverage glitter nail polish' (in ALL CAPS because apparently, that's the Rimmel way to communicate) that looks best when applied in two coats. I used three just to be sure. But how cool is a glitter polish that is opaque in just three thin coats?!

I used: Rimmel 002 Ruby Crush, Essence Stampy Polish white, Hema 01 pink (no name), L'Oréal Colour Riche 611 Sky Fits Heaven, Essence A Piece of Forever, L'Oréal Colour Riche 401 Rouge Pin Up, sharpie pen (for pupils)

Lazy 15 Day Fourteen: Where I am From

Day 14! Wow wow wow! Only one more to go =) Today's theme was Where I am From. This was harder than expected. Because, where am I from? I'm probably overthinking this, but it's all a matter of context.
My mum was born in another country as my dad. His parents were also from two different countries. So although I am not technically *from* all those places, they are in my heritage, so to speak. And I could use it all for a mani, yay!

Also. Ask my colleagues- I am from a city one hour away. Ask my neighbours- I am from another city one hour away. Ask my friends- I am from a city two and a half hours away. Ask my grandma- I am from the neighbouring country. Ask our Egyptian friends- and they might say I'm from Europe. So yeah. Loads of options to choose from, which didn't make it easier!

In the end I decided to go with the most recognizable design =)

Where am I from?  =)

Can you guess where I am from? Or rather, which (part of which) country I live in? I'm sure you can =D
Oh and the middle finger is a cow, in case you were wondering...

PS An alien would probably say I'm from Earth, to add another option to the mix ;-)

I used: Rimmel Sky High, Essence Stampy Polish white, L'Oréal Colour Riche 622 Soft Chinchilla, L'Oréal Colour Riche 401 Rouge Pin Up, L'Oréal Colour Riche Sky Fits Heaven, NYC High Line Green, NYC Lexington Yellow, Hema 01 pink (no name), sharpie pen, matte topcoat

Please take your time to check out all the other amazing bloggers that did this challenge with me after the jump. The list has been cleaned up, so that should make it a lot easier =)

Lazy 15 Day Ten: Mythical Water Creatures

Day Ten of the Lazy 15, only three days late. Yikes! I promise I will post Day Eleven today as well. It was a catching-up weekend.

So. Day Ten. I love Egypt with a passion. I have previously done a Sunset in Gizeh mani. Now it's time for another Egyptian mani =)

The theme for day ten in the Lazy 15 was 'Underwater Creatures/Water Mythical Creatures'. So I went with....

Hapi, Egyptian Nile God. Read all about him on Wikipedia! You will also find the pictures there that I based this mani on.

Hapi nail art

I used the colours that represent Hapi, freehanded a Nile Delta and my Geek wrote the hieroglyphs that spell his name on my thumb <3 I can't tell you how proud I am of this nail!

Hieroglyphs
The freehanded Nile Delta didn't come out quite as I had hoped. I mixed some shimmering pigments into Rimmels Bare Necessities to make it look like a dessert, then sponged some green where the Nile makes the land fertile. Finally I used Essie Dive Bar to draw the Nile itself.

Nile Delta

As you can see, I wasted no time on clean up. I was too stressed about being so behind on the challenge! Also, I realised that I'm going to Paris Tuesday and Wednesday to attend a fair, so I have to prepare Day Twelve as well. Why is this called a Lazy challenge?! ;-)

I used:
Thumb: Essie Blanc (which is getting thick =(), Staedler pigment liner
Index finger: Rimmel Bare Necessities mixed with some Essence Smell the Caramel pigment powder, Essence In The Jungle, Essie Dive Bar
Middle finger: blend of Rimmel Blue Vogue and Essie Bikini so Teeny
Ring finger: same blend as middle finger, Essence Sunshine 4ever, Essence In The Jungle
Pinky: Essence In The Jungle

Lazy 15 Day Nine: Disney movies/characters

Day Nine!

So I didn't manage to post Wednesday after all. Which means I am now officially one challenge behind, yikes! I hope to catch up this weekend. Apologies.

Only one picture turned out okay. Ish. Which is such a shame because the mani looked FAB! I was planning on taking more pics later, after proper clean up and final touches, but then my migraine decided to say hi.

Anyway, here it is, my Disney mani:

Flit from Pocahontas nail art

It's Flit! I just love that cheeky little hummingbird. Pocahontas I think is the only Disney movie I've only seen once, and I'm clueless as to why I haven't seen it more often. I even had a poster of Meeko when I was younger. Hmm.

As I mentioned before I've been suffering some breakage which is really messing with the overall look =(

Phew, now that I have posted this, I already feel less behind =) I hope to post Day Ten tomorrow or Sunday, and then to be back on schedule for Day Eleven on Monday =) Thanks for the patience! =)

I used: Rimmel Bright Back At You, L'Oréal Color Riche 210 Shocking Pink, Essie Allure, Essie Blanc

Lazy 15 Day Five: Galaxy Nails

Day five of the Lazy 15 Challenge has arrived, and it has brought us Galaxy Nails.

I had done these before, and I loved doing them again. This might just be the only day in the challenge I wasn't anxious about ;-)
I decided to use some different colours, just to see how much of a difference it would make. Also, I didn't use my sponges but some eye shadow applicators. However, I think the overall effect is so eye-popping that individual colours don't really matter!
If you're not sure how to do Galaxy nails: this is the tutorial I followed the first time, and I still follow that order of colours.

This was really hard to photograph, as you will see from the pictures. I really loved the mani though!

I used: Rimmel Blue Vogue, Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Disco Ball, Essie Blanc, Essence Check me Out, OPI Tomorrow Never Dies, Sally Hansen Marine Scene, Essie Licorice, Essence Louise (from Twins series Thelma & Louise).

Check back Wednesday for Day Six: Favourite Colour. Also, you will find a list of all participants of the Lazy 15 Challenge after the jump.

Lazy 15 Day Two: Gradient

Hello again, day two of the Lazy 15 Challenge. I can't wait to see what all the others have come up with =)

Like I promised, I did not use the Day One half gradient as the mani for today. I love gradients so I was more than happy to do another one.

I thought about doing clashing colours, I really want to try that. But as I kept staring at my stash, trying decide which colours to pick, three other colours just jumped into my hands so I had to go with them.

As a base I used Rimmel Sky High. It's looks so much better then it does in the bottle <3
Then I sponged Rimmel Bright Back at You and Essence Show Your Feet: In The Jungle on for the gradient. In the Jungle is actually a toe nail polish - the bottle says it's 'antibacterial, extremely long lasting and gives great coverage in just one coat'. I have only used it once on my toes and it was fantastic, but one test is not enough for me to be confident enough to endorse the claims. But, just thought I'd mention it.

And the finished mani

I used: Rimmel 825 Sky High, Rimmel 835 Bright Back at You, Essence In The Jungle

Be sure to come back Wednesday for Day Three: Dots! I have something cool planned, hope it will turn out right.

Lazy 15 Day One: Tape Mani

Hi!

Today is the first day of my first challenge, whoop whoop! And if that weren't exciting anough, it's the Tape Mani, which is also a first for me! So, here it goes:

Purple gradient nails
Purple prettiness, no flash, daylight

Purple prettiness and Queen Bee, no flash, artificial light

As always, *click* to enlarge

I covered one half of each nail with tape. Then I sponged my gradient on. I applied the polish on a sheet of plastic then picked it up with the sponge, rather than applying it directly on to the sponge itself. But that's just the technique I prefer.

As you can see, I had some trouble finding the middle of my nails so I placed the tape slightly off on some nails. But all in all, the effect is quite cool and it's not like anyone is going to be measuring both sides. At least, I hope so...

And before you ask, no, I am not cheating and using this as the gradient mani for Monday ;-) I just really like gradients =D I'm sure others will post insanely delicate tape manis +( But, I'm just gettiong started, please bear with me.

Ultraviolet and Tomorrow Never Dies are both such amazing colours. I love them both and I was very happy to see they combined well! I only lost the amazing shimmer Tomorrow Never Dies has, but that was to be expected in a gradient.

That's it for Day One, check back Monday for the Gradient Mani!

I used: Rimmel Ultraviolet, OPI Tomorrow Never Dies, Essence Gel Look top coat

And don't forget to check out the other Lazy 15 guys and gals, I've been checking these blogs pretty much every hour since yesterday, haha! You can find the list after the jump:

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween! Don't you just just love Halloween? I love any holiday that brings light in dark times and I love vampires and creepy lore stuff so Halloween is a double win for me!

The design for my Halloween mani had been in my mind for some weeks and I actually practised one two weeks ago. However, as more and more Halloween mani's kept appearing on the webz, I changed some nails. Some designs on Tumblr were just too darn cute to ignore!

My mani is now a combination of own ideas and copied ideas. I know, blood drips, pumpkins and black cats are not exactly original but I did come up with the ideas myself =)

Halloween manicure
Creepy stuff!

Sorry about not uploading the high res pic, I did a sloppy clean up job. You can click to enlarge, however.

You can find the tutorial for the vampire by JauntyJuli here, for the teeth by BeautyChocolat here. Yes, I realise I do these things upside-down, that's just how I prefer them =) Also, I have seen similar designs online. I am truly sorry if someone else is the original artist, but I used the above tutorials so those are my sources. I will link if you have reason to believe this was your design.

Also, I have been comparing Essence Better Than Gel top coat and Essence Gel Look top coat, and I think they are pretty much the same! Which is good news for me =D

Fun off-topic fact: we were having dinner with my Geeks family, and his sister told me how her son had told a friend that I had 100 polishes, but I threw out a blue one he liked so now I only had 99 left. My Geek laughed and said it would be best if we didn't tell the kid I have since bought new polishes ;-)

I used:
Thumb: Rimmel Blue Vogue, Essie Licorice, OPI Ridiculously Yellow
Index: Impulss 005, Essie Licorice
Middle: Essie Licorice,
Essence Stampy Polish White, l'Oréal Color Riche 401 Rouge Pin Up
Ring: Rimmel Ultraviolet, Essie Licorice, Essence Stampy Polish White
Pinky: Essie Blanc,
