Simple Chic

A French manicure with a dotted twist =)

I started this mani by just dotting Catrice Dirty Berry and Rimmel Ultra Violet on two coats of Essie Allure.

Picture with flash
I decided it just wasn't quite cool enough so I added some more dots in a lighter shade of purple.

Picture without flash
Quick, easy and it looked quite fancy =)

I used: Essie Allure, Catrice Dirty Berry, Rimmel Ultra Violet, Essence Dress for a Moment

GA Suze: Silver Lining

A new mani by Suze! It's been a while.

Silver Lining
This is a freehand striped mani. Freehand! I wouldn't even be able doing this using tape I'm afraid.

I really love how clear the silver is over that dark purple. Impressive! I'm pretty sure I have Silver Surfer myself, will have to try it again soon!

Suze used: Rimmel 610 Pompous, Gosh 541 Gasoline, Essence Nail Art Silver Surfer, Essence top coat

Bye Bye Summer =(

*Sad face*
Summer is definitely over where I am =( We did have some warm sunny days October last year so who knows what's to come, but right now, it's rainy, cloudy, windy, sometimes even stormy. No wonder I'm sick.

So, I wanted a cool, festive mani to celebrate the summer, as it was a good one =) I decided to go for a beachy scene. I even tried my hand at stamping again and it went perfectly! Until I somehow managed to pull the polish and thus ruined the ice cream stamp =(

Shimmery beaches

Blah, poor pulled ice cream =(

I took these pictures before applying any top coat. Unfortunately, this meant any bumps and bubbles I hadn't spotted real-life, showed up nice and obvious in the pictures =( Oh well.

I used: Essence Gold Rush over Rimmel Bare Necessities, Sally Hansen Marine Scene over Rimmel Aqua Cool, Essie Too Too Hot (stamping), l'Oréal Jet Set 202 (starfish)

Warrior Princess

Hello again!

So, I'm back from my holiday, it was a great week. I sorely missed my polishes though :-( I'd taken only a handful of them + my favourite topcoat but I missed browsing my stash and sitting down to paint, or being able to translate any kind of inspiration into nail art immediately. Anyhow, I'm back now!

On to todays mani:

Yes, please do click to enlarge =)
I have no idea what made me name this Warrior Princess. Maybe because I feel quite cool and tough with this on my nails?

Anyhow. We came back from France Saturday night. I treated my nails with some TLC (being Essence nail oil, drug store hand cream and KOH calcium base coat). I had had some bad news Friday night so I cut my nails short and removed my polish (does anyone else do that? I feel bad and first thing I do is cut and clean my nails), discovering a nasty reddish discolouration. This was a first for me from an Essie polish :-( So this made me decide to wait 48 hours before applying new polish. Naturally I never made the 48 hours. After 42, I applied Essence Peel Off base coat. Review is coming later this week aka as soon as I remove this mani to show you some pics of the results!

So when Sunday evening arrived, I got up to grab Essence Iced Latte. But it was gone! I moaned and whimpered at my Geek for a few minutes until deciding to go ahead and use Rimmel Bare Necessities instead. Of course, he would tell me it's virtually the same but we all know it's not even close ;-) In fact- here's a picture of my two favourite nudes (ha!):

Iced Latte and Bare Necessities in the shade

I wanted to combine nudes and metallics. I grabbed Dive Bar and went for a thin French manicure style. That sort of bored me... So I added some spice by adding the vertical line. That was such an improvement! However, I still felt it wasn't finished. So I grabbed Mrs and Mr Glitter and my dotting tool and added three specks (one of each colour in Mrs and Mr Glitter) on each nail. I added Essence Quick Dry topcoat instead of Gel Look because... I haven't found my nail travel bag yet! We've been unpacking and doing laundry and honestly we didn't pack much, so I'm afraid it's somewhere in the car :-(
Mrs and Mr Glitter
I had to wait until morning to take the pictures but I spent a good part of the evening staring at my nails adoringly ;-)
When I photographed them this morning, they actually reminded me of The Whale Tail by The Nailasaurus. This was not intentional, but I suppose having seen this mani before, it's very well possible it was stored somewhere in my subconscious. Either way, I'm all for linking to great mani's by great artists so go and check it out!

And this morning, I found Iced Latte! It had been in its usual spot all along! *facepalm*

Can you tell I missed blogging? Ha!

I used: Essence Peel Off basecoat (review coming later this week), Rimmel Bare Necessities, Essie Dive Bar, Essence Mrs and Mr Glitter, Essence Quick Dry topcoat

Leopard nails

In my previous post I mentioned I was sporting a leopard mani. I was going to take pictures and post later that night, but the weather has been dreadful ever since :-( Only dark clouds.

Okay, so this is probably not the best leopard mani you have ever seen. However, I just loved the colour combo <3 Definitely worth remembering =)

One thing I like about this picture is that it shows the awesomeness of Essences Gel Look topcoat. Look at that pinky! Look at that index finger!

I used: Rimmel Grey Matter, OPI Riotously Pink, Essie Licorice, Essence Gel Look topcoat

After Ten

So much chocolate <3
Is there anything yummier than chocolate?

For this mani I was inspired by... The polish I mistakenly bought. Yup, that's right. I was going for Decadent Dish but the lighting of Essie displays here is dreadful, shop was closing and there was a wrong bottle where Decadent Dish was supposed to be. Darn you, lazy shoppers!

Anyway, I noticed my error on the train and was inspired by the colour! I had also bought Allure (they don't sell Marshmallow over here, the one I actually wanted) and seeing them together I instantly thought of After Eight chocolates. The yummy chocolate squares with the runny mint inside. Mmmm. For the ring finger I though of Mint Crunchie (which I never liked, but my sister did)

Can I just say that Essie Chocolate Cakes really looks just like molten choc inside the bottle? <3

I used: Essie Chocolate Cakes, Essie Allure, Rimmel Bright Back At You, Essence A Walk In The Park, Essence Check Me Out

As for the piece of choc I am holding... Chocstar.nl

A flowery dress

- Scheduled post due to absence -

My Geek and I had a wedding to attend. Being the girly-girl that I am, I had to go and buy a dress for this occassion. I was thinking of just leaving my nails a nude colour as I love Rimmels Bare Necessities (it's in my profile pic as well), but in the end I couldn't resist and let the inspiration from the dress just flow :-)

Yay!

I adored this mani so much that I kept it for several days! Having a dishwasher rocks- my manis last so much longer these days!

I used: Rimmel Bare Necessities, Essence Stampy Polish, Rimmel Blue My Mind, Models Own Lemon Meringue

And in case anyone wondered... I bought the dress at Primark!

Galaxy nails

Like most people, I too was inspired to try Galaxy nails. My Geek and I love Star Trek so I thought he would appreciate it too! I used the tutorial from Nail Art 101 and it was so easy!

I used these colours and props...
Oh boy!

And this was the result. I was quite pleased actually.
Worth it? Yes!

I have since made them for my sister as well, using the same colours and technique. Cool how they still turn out different from mine! I also think it's cool to see how much difference nail length can make. She went to a festival 20 minutes after I finished her nails, and only her pinky suffered :-)

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to fetch myself a cup of tea, Earl Grey, hot... ;-)

ETA: Some tutorials tell you not to use too much white, but I think it makes it look like nebulas which I think is awesome! However, you might want to try it using less white, should this mani be too bright for you.

I used: Rimmel Blue Vogue, Essence Special Effect Copper'ize me, Essence Stampy Polish, Essence Check me Out, Essence Twins Thelma & Louise, Urban Decay Aquarius, drugstore brand black, Essence gel look topcoat (two layers for me, one for my sister).

Crash Test Mani

Crash Test Mani and Queen B in sunlight
Wow! I am sooo pleased with this mani! And the picture, I think this might be my 'thing'. Posing with my controller aka Queen B!

My Geek is in a band named Beezwax. A friend sent me a picture of a buzzing bee mani for their performance. I'm not even going to try and find the original source, there's so many extremely similar ones around the web. Anyway, I did the bee mani on a set of fake nails for my friend and planned on doing my own nails later. However, there was no time and I fell ill *sad face* so this is what I ended up with. It's not exactly a buzzing bee, it kind of reminds me of those crash test dummies! The colours look so cool together :-) This is three layers of Bright Back At You, and two of Lexington Yellow and the black polish. No topcoat!

This is how the Bee mani worked out:

I did the base colour (Rimmels Bright Back At You, two layers) a day before I did the accents and I really like the colour. Also received some compliments which is always nice ;-) It just brightens your day just looking at it.

Black & Blue Matte

So so sorry about the yucky edges and cuticles. This mani was three days old when I took the picture. I love matte top coats but they seem to do nothing for the lasting period of the polish :-(

Left Essie Bikini So Teeny, right Rimmel Aqua Cool

Bikini so Teeny is my first bottle of Essie polish. In the bottle, silver specks are clearly visibile, but after applying these seem to disappear. It basically looks just like Rimmels Aqua Cool once it's dry. Which I already own. So yeah. Big disappointment.

As for the black: I just <3 a matte black!

In unrelated news I got myself a new bottle of white stampy polish. I just love the stuff so you'll be seeing loads of white (details) here :-)

I used: Essie Bikini so Teeny, drug store brand black polish, Essence Matt top coat, Essence gel look topcoat (ring finger)

Gradient Nails: Sky

So I tried the gradient nails (I just loved the colour combo over at The Nailasaurus and used that tutorial) with a bit of white and pale blue. To be honest, I tried two shades of pink first but it was a mess.

Try to not see these babies!

Sorry about the small picture, it's just that it looks terrible up close! I got quite some compliments but I already have new polish on my nails as I was just too unsure.

I have found that cutting the sponges to fit your nails makes it easier, as I kept overestimating the length and then the gradient was too long :-( I'm excited to try this gradient thing again!

I used: Essence Stampy Polish white (base), Miss Sporty Et voilà! Nail tip whitener, Rimmel 420 Aqua Cool, Essence Gel Look topcoat
