Aluminum Mix

Hello again my lovely followers,

Recently I became a member of a beauty swap group on Facebook. I think it's a fantastic initiative!

My first swap was with a girl that wanted a Mavala polish and a drugstore brand polish my sister had given me because she had three of them. So, pretty painless for me really! She sent me her swap list and I spotted Nails Inc Cambridge Terrace. Cambridge Terrace! The swap was completed and I was thrilled to receive this beauty of a polish <3

After just staring at it for two days (two days! And no chipping at all!) I had to do some nail art with it. So, here it is:

Base is two coats of Cambridge Terrace.
- Thumb is some free-hand heart-thingy
- Index is one coat of NYC Rock Muse
- Middle finger is a Bourjois sticker from the Pshiit set
- Ring finger is drug store brand crackle
- Pinky is stamping using an Essence plate and Essence Stampy Polish

You can really see how gorgeous Cambridge Terrace is on the middle finger <3 My Geek said it was aluminum!

Would you ever swap cosmetics online?

Baroque Stamping

If you've been checking this blog for a while, you know how stamping makes me feel. Inadequate. Envious. And all that. I still try to make myself think I can do anything as long as I work hard for it and practice, practice, practice. So have I given up stamping? No way Jose.

Here is my latest stamping adventure. A posh baroque design.
The l'Oréal polish stamped so well! I messed the mani up by leaving remover on the plate and then by adding the matte top coat too soon. Oh well.

Barok stamping
I had to take this picture at work so blurred the radiator in the background ;-)

As you can see, I suffered some askew stamping on the pinky finger and index.
The look was what I called 'zombie chic'. That just came to mind when I saw the colours combined and the design itself =)

OT: I'm a bit bummed because Vampirestat is back in my blog statistics =( I hadn't seen them since I added robots.txt but now they're back. Is anyone else seeing the return of referral spam like vampirestat on their blogs?

I used: Essie Miss Fancy Pants, l'Oréal Color Riche 404 Scarlet Vamp, Miss Sporty Check Matte

Just a quick post today. The pic is no good either, had to take it at the office. Hope it can inspire you anyway =)
Black & white stamping over a minty green polish, with a studded accent nail. The beads/studs came in a nail art decoration set from the Essence Vintage District LE.
The stamp design is from a new plate. Well, I'm not sure if it's actually newly released- I had just never seen this particular plate in stores before. I can't find any details on plates on the Essence website, unfortunately.

I used: Bell Air Flow 712, Essence Black & White Stampy polish, Essence Stamping kit Plate, Essence beads/studs.

Merry Manicure

Woop woop! Time for a Christmas manicure =)

Since I cannot keep measure and buy just one item online, I have not been able to buy flocking powder yet. It always seems such a waste to buy one item and then pay shipping so I end up buying things I really don't need and not being able to buy my train tickets at the end of the month, grr.
So, when my Geek and I were at a garden centre a while ago, they had all this stuff to build your own model railway landscape. I found several interesting items (I'm always on the lookout for alternatives to things that are labelled 'nail art' as it seems things double in price once they are labelled that) including powders to be used for snow and grass. I used the snowflakes for the Snow White mani, here is the grass!

I tried adding some decorations to the tree to complete the look but... Meh. I ruined it.

Fun fact: I used two different polishes for stamping: a local drugstore brand and OPI Just Spotted The Lizard. No difference here, will have to do comparison soon =)
The drugstore brand was actually a gift from GA Suze because it underwhelmed her so I can't wait to try it for real.

I used: Essence Do You Speak Love?, OPI Just Spotted The Lizard, Etos, green 'grass' powder for model trains.

Lazy 15 Day Seven: Feminine Nails

Day Seven of the Lazy 15, and this was another hard one for me. Not because of some challenging technique, but because of the theme. Because what the heck are feminine nails?! Does that mean there are manicures that are not feminine? Granted, the Assassin's Creed mani I have planned may not be exactly feminine, but where is the line?

So, in the end I decided to combine the typically 'girly' heart symbol with neutral colours and a touch of glitter.
This was very hard to photograph (again...) and I kind of messed up the thumb by picking at the edges, forgetting I had used peel-off basecoat. Duh!
I added a matte top coat, but somehow it still looked shiny.

Feminine Nails, yay or nay?
Posing with Queen Bee <3
So, what's your verdict? Feminine nails or did I miss the point entirely?

I used: Essence Iced Latte, Essence Stampy Polish white, Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Disco Ball, Essence stamping set, matte top coat.

Have a great weekend and check back Monday for Day Eight: Dessert.
Also, you will find a list of all participants of the Lazy 15 Challenge after the jump. Have fun =)

Bring Back Summer

Okay, I suppose this doesn't really count as a mani. I didn't even finish it. The reason for this? I despise the yellow polish.

It is Models Own Lemon Meringue. It makes my toes curl just thinking of it (and not in the good way).
I bought it around Easter and I was so happy to have finally found this soft, pale yellow. I had not owned a Models Own polish before. I came home, tried it. And the smell... I have since learned it is not 3-free but, honestly, I can not imagine all other polishes I have ever tried in my life were. And this is seriously the vilest smelling polish I have ever, ever, smelled. And I like the smell of Edding pens, glue, hairdye etc. This? This is just too much. I want to throw it out, but at the same time I think someone might not mind so I might leave it on the train or something...

I believe the Models Own Pro series are 3-free so they might smell better, but I am steering clear of Models Own =(

Also, the below is three coats. Three. *sad face*

Models Own nail polish smell
Pukey smell but fun mani...

I do still like the idea of using a summery design (ice creams) in a non-summery colour (black).

Splatter Stamping

Sorry for the hiatus, I've been feeling a bit under the weather. This first reflected in not being able to finish a mani and then not being able to muster the energy to go online and post. I'm not quite there yet, but it's getting better =)
And can I just say how different cats and dogs are?! Whenever I'd been ill at home, the dog(s) would cuddle up to me and not make a peep or move an inch until I indicated it was okay and they would give me tender kisses. This kitten however... It's like it's thinking "Yay, you're HOME! Look at all the mischief I am up to!"

Oh well. On to todays mani.

Splatter, splatter =)

Okay, I have no clue why this picture was turned upright when uploading. And to be honest, I can't quite be bothered to find out and correct it. Apologies. Also, Queen B is docked right now so I used my other controller for the picture =)
So! The mani. I have been attempting stamping for over a year now. I can never do it! I have tried different, sets, brands, polished, the lot. I just have no talent. I keep trying every now and then, and when this looked... not all that bad, I decided to just add some polish to make it pop more =)

I added this flash picture to show Dive Bar better. All in all, I thought it was a fun autumn mani! And I was quite pleased at how well Lexington Yellow looked on Dive Bar.

I used: Essie Dive Bar, NYC Lexington Ave, Essence stamping polish, Essie Too Too Hot

Mum's Mani

Last Saturday was a momentous day. I live a 2 hrs drive from my family, so I don't see them as often as I'd like. Last Saturday I went to spend the evening with my mum and sleep in my 'old' room. She was going to an event the next day and suddenly came out with 'you can do my nails if you want to'. Needless to say I was de-ligh-ted! =D

She's a real 'red is for toenails, toenails are for red' and 'I need a new shade of mother of pearl' kind of lady. But I was in for a surprise. A nearby nationwide drugstore (the one that sells the black polish I use) has been giving away small bottles of nailpolish with every purchase over a certain amount. They have a choice of eight funky colours so I had her choose between 'safely bold' or 'boldly bold' and she chose the latter!

These are the colours:

Etos give-away colours
And the awesome thing is, they let you choose!

Seeing as my mum is no spring chicken, I decided that there are limits to bold. I chose two colours and stuck with them, adding just a string of stamped flowers and a touch of glitter:

Mum mani

My mum is even less patient than I am. This mani really tested her patience as the freebies needed three layers to be opaque.
So after that, she really didn't want the fuss of cleaning up her cuticles and all. But I'm sure you'll forgive her. Just this once ;-) Can't wait to do her nails again!

I used: Etos freebies, Essence Glitter twin '' Edward'', Essence stamping plate

We All Need It

Love, love, love

Okay, before you go all 'my goodness she's orange! Gosh look at the state of her cuticles!' I will tell you that this picture wasn't supposed to be. The light is flash only so hardly true to life. It was taken at night, in the dark. So why? Well, my Geek writes music. He sent me a message with a recording of him playing with piece of music he's written for me. Naturally I wanted to send him something sweet in return and I had just done this earlier, wasn't happy with it but hadn't removed it. It's hardly composing a piece of music but it's the only thing I have that comes close to a talent!

I used: O.P.I Number One Nemesis, Essence Stampy Polish White, Essence Nail Art Stampy Set+ extra plate, matte topcoat.
