Valentine NAC Day 3: Kisses

Yup, Day Three already!

Day 3 means: Kisses. Naturally, the first thing that came to mind were lips, lip prints etc. However, I wasn't quite happy doing the first thing that came to mind so I thought some more and this is what I came up with =)

I used: Herome W.I.C Perm, Etos black striper

Apologies for just one pic. It was a pain to photograph as the black kept reflecting any light source, breaking up the design. I hope you can still see what it is meant to be.
Also, I know my nails are not shaped at all, I was going to grow them to file them straight, but I think I'll do something else. Just can't figure out what. The problem is that my left index finger keeps chipping so as much as I love the nail shape like it was here, it never lasts long.

I thought my entry for day three was a lovely and subtle Valentine's mani! I can't wait to see what the others have done, be sure to check them out:

Valentine NAC Day 2: Hearts

Day two of the Valentine Challenge! And the theme for day two is: hearts. Yay! You can't go wrong with hearts =D

I actually did this mani over the weekend but didn't manage to post so I'll be posting day two and three today =)

Check out my subtle but glam twist on the classic French mani.

The purple is L'Oreal Colour Riche Purple Disturbia. I am really impressed by the Colour Riche polishes. I've only had two 'misses', the others are gorgeous <3 They are fairly pricey (6,10) for the small size (5ml), but we often get promotions like 1+1 free. Last week it was 3 for 10,- =D

I used: Essence A Piece of Forever, L'Oréal Colour Riche Purple Distubia

Check out the other entries for Day two:

Valentine Nail Art Challenge Day 1: Red or Pink

Whoop whoop, it's challenge time again!

This time I've joined the Valentine Nail Art Challenge hosted by the lovely Dahlia over at datyorkLOVES. There are ten prompts to complete before February 14th, so there is nothing lazy about this challenge! It still gives me some space to skip a day wihtout falling behind schedule, so I think I should be able to handle it. Can't wait to see all the entries in this challenge!

Day 1 meant pink or red. I gave you a sneak peek by posting Woodstock last Friday. Here is the finished mani! I was going for cutesie, but I think it looks more like I wanted to do something but couldn't quite do it. But My Geek thought it looked really cool, so maybe I'm just being a bit hard on myself =)

I used: Urban Decay Woodstock, Etos black striper

Be sure to check back tomorrow for Day 2: Hearts <3
And don't forget to check out the other entries for Day 1:

Fancy Studs AT LAST!

Pretties!

How do you feel about 3D nail art, stickers and studs? I love the possibilities and have been looking for studs for absolute ages. Finally I have found a set, in a funky, old-fashioned drug store in our part of town. I am so happy!

I tried them out as soon as we got home. Because they were more pricey that I had hoped, I was really hoping the quality would not be a let-down.
I love to combine bold and neutral, so I went for a greige and gold studs.

Kiss studs stickers nail
Miss Fancy Pants +studs

Close up

Sorry for posting two such similar pictures.

These are the studs. As you can see, they are from the brand Kiss. I have good and bad products from Kiss, this seems to be a winner =)
They are stickers. The edges on the square stood out a bit but I fixed that with top coat.

For this mani I used three coats of Essie Miss Fancy Pants, the studs and two thick coats of Essence Better Than Gel top coat.

And now it's time for a confession: one of my previously posted nail arts was one from the archives. I kept my nails like this for no less than four days! I lost no studs and the polish only chipped on my right thumb <3

Can't wait to use these babies again, get the set if you see it somewhere!

Golden camouflage

How dangerous are train delays?! With all those shops at railway stations, it's just too easy to spend money.
I had to wait half an hour the other day and found the drugstore at the station had reduced prices on l'Oréal and Maybelline polishes. I managed to ignore the Maybelline display but couldn't refuse a 50% off l'Oréal Color Riche Luxembourg Garden. I've since read it's supposed to be a dupe for Chanel Black Pearl? I don't have that one (have you seen the price label on it?) so I wouldn't know, but from swatches I'd say it looks pretty similar.

I found this pic by Tumblr user batsarequiet in Google cache:

batsarequiet.tumblr.com

I applied two coats, then used an eyeshadow applicator to sponge on a gold Miss Sporty polish. For the accent nail, I applied one coat of the lush The Man With The Golden Gun.
To even out the sponging, I applied one coat of Better Than Gel Look top coat by Essence. This was the result:

Even if it's not the same gold tint, I liked it a lot.

I used: L'Oréal Color Riche 608 Luxembourg Garden, Miss Sporty gold shimmer polish (no name), OPI The Man With The Golden Gun.

Graffiti Nails

Hi pretties =)

Last week I spotted this pink crackle polish. It stood next to a khaki polish and I just thought 'ooooooh they would look so goooood together!' so I had to get them both =)
I couldn't wait to try them, and decided to play with some patterns rather than just applying the crackle on the entire nail.

Pink crackle on khaki
I loved the effect! It reminded me of graffiti. Unfortunately I was in a hurry and didn't manage to add the black crackle to the other nails, as the thumb looked amazing in real life. I was at my mum's house so had to improvise without Queen Bee.

Have you ever used crackle polishes for nail art?

Lazy 15 Day Seven: Feminine Nails

Day Seven of the Lazy 15, and this was another hard one for me. Not because of some challenging technique, but because of the theme. Because what the heck are feminine nails?! Does that mean there are manicures that are not feminine? Granted, the Assassin's Creed mani I have planned may not be exactly feminine, but where is the line?

So, in the end I decided to combine the typically 'girly' heart symbol with neutral colours and a touch of glitter.
This was very hard to photograph (again...) and I kind of messed up the thumb by picking at the edges, forgetting I had used peel-off basecoat. Duh!
I added a matte top coat, but somehow it still looked shiny.

Feminine Nails, yay or nay?
Posing with Queen Bee <3
So, what's your verdict? Feminine nails or did I miss the point entirely?

I used: Essence Iced Latte, Essence Stampy Polish white, Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Disco Ball, Essence stamping set, matte top coat.

Have a great weekend and check back Monday for Day Eight: Dessert.
Also, you will find a list of all participants of the Lazy 15 Challenge after the jump. Have fun =)

Simple Chic

A French manicure with a dotted twist =)

I started this mani by just dotting Catrice Dirty Berry and Rimmel Ultra Violet on two coats of Essie Allure.

Picture with flash
I decided it just wasn't quite cool enough so I added some more dots in a lighter shade of purple.

Picture without flash
Quick, easy and it looked quite fancy =)

I used: Essie Allure, Catrice Dirty Berry, Rimmel Ultra Violet, Essence Dress for a Moment

Inspired by D.I.Y Nails

Just a quick mani today.

Pink & white
This was inspired by (stolen from?) D.I.Y Nails. You can see her mani here.

Finally a use for my L'Oréal Marie Antoinette as it's just too sheer for me to wear it 'pure'. This mani looks pretty cool matte as well =) The picture is without any topcoat, Le Vernis is awesome like that =)

Also. How my hands are starting to suffer from this weather and this kitten!

I used: Essie Blanc, L'Oréal Colour Riche Le Vernis202 Marie Antoinette

Smokey Rock Muse

Last month I bought NYC Rock Muse Smoky Topcoat (LE). These 'smoky topcoats' seem to have been around before but this was the first that caught my eye. And with my Geek being a massive Muse fan, I had to get it ;-)

The base is a sheer gold polish from Hema, a Dutch department store. I didn't expect it to be quite so sheer and with a more purple shine, so I hadn't worn this until I decided to try it with the Rock Muse topcoat. Here is the base:

Base, in sunlight

After three layers of that, I added one layer of Rock Muse:

I thought this looked AWESOME! Rock Muse has been called a dupe for OPI Metal 4 Life (Nicki Minaj) but I wouldn't know. I am sure I will wear this combo again, especially seeing as I have this Hema polish I have no other use for =)

3D nails, yay!

Black white nail art
Black, white, rhinestones <3

This weekend I found some sticky rhinestones in the crafts store, so I decided to try them out! This is my first ever attempt at 3D nails and I am amazed at the lasting quality.

I didn't clean up, because we had friends coming over for diner and would go play racquetball the next day, so I took the pics as soon as possible because I feared the mani might not last all that long. However, three days later, the rhinestones are still firmly in place! I have only changed the other nails =).

Also, I made my first franken! It's the holo glitter on my middle finger. It's quite awesome and I will show better pics in the next few days. As soon as there's some sun...

This was the last mani using my drug store brand black, as is had suddenly gone bad =( I bought Essie Licorice as a replacement and so far so good.

I just stuck the rhinestones in the wet polish, no topcoat. Showering, playing racquetball, cooking, sleeping, have not effected them at all. Actually I'm thinking of adding some more at the sides!

I used: drug store brand black, Essie Blanc, my first franken (yay!)

Foamy Oceans

*scheduled post due to city break*

After the disapointment from Essie Bikini so Teeny and the Chocolate Cakes/Decadent Dish blunder, I decided to try another Essie colour. Everyone deserves a second chance, right? =)
So I went and got Dive Bar. And dark blue with green and purple shimmer in the bottle.

Good news: in contrast to Bikini so Teeny, the glittering specks were very visible on my nails, yay!
Bad news: I couldn't manage to see any purple sheen once it's on the nails. Very disappointing =(
I had seen swatches like this one from Polish or Perish so I hadn't expected to not see any purple at all. It was a weekend with sun as well as a bit of rain so I kept looking at my nails constantly and from all angles but no luck.

However, I was very pleased with the mani and got some compliments, again, so I will definitely use Dive Bar again. I have just decided to prepare myself to get results that differ from what I expect when buying Essie. I was quite pleased with the Fingr's French pen, it cost a small fortune but thankfully the quality is immensely better than the Fingr's nail art pens.

Neon... Skittle... Cracked!

Let me just give you a minute to gaze at this mani.

Isn't the coolest? I couldn't wait to try out my neons (as I mentioned in my previous post about the poor Copper Latte) and decided to go for a skittle*.

Strictly speaking the white is not a neon, it is a basecoat included in the Outrageous Neons set to make the colours *pop* even more. But since I have five fingers and four colours for each hand... It's not too far of a stretch, I'd say.

When I finished my Skittle, I was slightly overwhelmed and worried what my boss would say... Here's why:

Neon Skittle with flash

And I know you're thinking 'what were you expecting? You bought NEON colours!' but after looking for them for so long and now seeing them in the bottles, I wasn't expecting the result to be this.... Neon.

Neon colours are always a challenge for cameras and computer screens. So I decided to take one more picture, twilight, no flash to show just how popping these colours are!

Yikes!
As you can see, I had already decided to do the cracking when I thought of taking the picture. I was slightly worried that the neon would be lost after adding the cracking top coat, but luckily it is still there <3.

If you want to try this mani, I would recommend that you use the O.P.I topcoat before adding the cracking top coat, as it improves the results. For reference= pinky was without topcoat, other fingers with.

I used: OPI Outrageous Neons, Claires Crackle topcoat, OPI topcoat (included in neon set)

*Skittle= The classic Skittle Manicure is made of at least two nail polishes which are also applied on the full nail. The colors don’t have to be in the same color family. Basically like the candy Skittles which this nail look is named after. - The-Swatchaholic.com

After Ten

So much chocolate <3
Is there anything yummier than chocolate?

For this mani I was inspired by... The polish I mistakenly bought. Yup, that's right. I was going for Decadent Dish but the lighting of Essie displays here is dreadful, shop was closing and there was a wrong bottle where Decadent Dish was supposed to be. Darn you, lazy shoppers!

Anyway, I noticed my error on the train and was inspired by the colour! I had also bought Allure (they don't sell Marshmallow over here, the one I actually wanted) and seeing them together I instantly thought of After Eight chocolates. The yummy chocolate squares with the runny mint inside. Mmmm. For the ring finger I though of Mint Crunchie (which I never liked, but my sister did)

Can I just say that Essie Chocolate Cakes really looks just like molten choc inside the bottle? <3

I used: Essie Chocolate Cakes, Essie Allure, Rimmel Bright Back At You, Essence A Walk In The Park, Essence Check Me Out

Crash Test Mani

Crash Test Mani and Queen B in sunlight
Wow! I am sooo pleased with this mani! And the picture, I think this might be my 'thing'. Posing with my controller aka Queen B!

My Geek is in a band named Beezwax. A friend sent me a picture of a buzzing bee mani for their performance. I'm not even going to try and find the original source, there's so many extremely similar ones around the web. Anyway, I did the bee mani on a set of fake nails for my friend and planned on doing my own nails later. However, there was no time and I fell ill *sad face* so this is what I ended up with. It's not exactly a buzzing bee, it kind of reminds me of those crash test dummies! The colours look so cool together :-) This is three layers of Bright Back At You, and two of Lexington Yellow and the black polish. No topcoat!

This is how the Bee mani worked out:
Buzzing Bee mani just before last touches and filing - Picture by Sanne

I did the base colour (Rimmels Bright Back At You, two layers) a day before I did the accents and I really like the colour. Also received some compliments which is always nice ;-) It just brightens your day just looking at it.

Black & Blue Matte

So so sorry about the yucky edges and cuticles. This mani was three days old when I took the picture. I love matte top coats but they seem to do nothing for the lasting period of the polish :-(

Left Essie Bikini So Teeny, right Rimmel Aqua Cool

Bikini so Teeny is my first bottle of Essie polish. In the bottle, silver specks are clearly visibile, but after applying these seem to disappear. It basically looks just like Rimmels Aqua Cool once it's dry. Which I already own. So yeah. Big disappointment.

As for the black: I just <3 a matte black!

In unrelated news I got myself a new bottle of white stampy polish. I just love the stuff so you'll be seeing loads of white (details) here :-)

I used: Essie Bikini so Teeny, drug store brand black polish, Essence Matt top coat, Essence gel look topcoat (ring finger)

Black & Gold: Glitter

In a sequel to Black & Gold mani: I present to you Black & Gold: Glitter!

Ooooh, shiny!
I was trying my newly acquired O.P.I Spider-Man polishes and I was really impressed with the Number One Nemesis. It has a green undertone which you wouldn't think from seeing it in the bottle! I must do a swatch some time. I kept that on for about... 24 hours before I started doodling again and this was the result!

I actually took several pictures but the light was terrible (did we just skip summer?). So I'm only posting this one, as it shows how cool and flaky Essence Make it Golden is.

I used: O.P.I Number One Nemesis, drug store brand black, Essence Make it Golden, no topcoat.

EURO 2012 Nails

So EURO 2012 is in full swing and boy is this an exciting tournament! I love football so I'm watching quite a few games. We actually have an office pool so it's a load of fun!

I started the tournament with an orange mani, inspired by the Dutch team. This is their jersey and a very angry looking Rafael van der Vaart.

If you ask me, orange isn't the easiest colour. I find it can look tacky, especially if you have longer nails. But who cares, it's EURO 2012! I even decided to spice things up by adding a little glitter gradient. I love this orange colour (Watch out! by Essence) because it has a gold shimmer. I would have to say the flash picture is more true to life than the daylight picture.
